I was involuntarily converted in Sept. It sucks. It was after the VTO's are completed. You have no input whatsoever in what you get. It totally ignores seniority. Every guy junior to me that had a VTO got to input at least something, I got to input nothing. Its a total screw job and I can't believe this is allowed in our contract. I can't believe that scheduling has no clue they need to convert Reserve lines until after the VTO's are built. If you are going to be converted, you should be able to exercise at least some of your seniority and be able to input like normal VTO lines.

Wow, that really sucks. What seat and how many were converted? And what reserve period? It seems they should at least have to go in inverse seniority of ALL reserve holders, meaning the bottom RA guys would be first to get converted.....but I'm sure that's now how they interpret it.

It was RB and Anc Capt. I was the only RB period converted. I don't know about the other periods. All the RB lines junior to me weren't really convertible because guys didn't have a full reserve schedule due to vacations or training. I was also senior to every VTO line holder for that month. I was also converted from RB about two years ago in Dec. Same deal then, no input. So just imagine if you bid a reserve line with Christmas off and you don't volunteer to convert, you could end up working Christmas. Just some info for guys bidding reserve in Dec. If you volunteer to convert, they have to honor your original days off. I think they do go in inverse seniority but you have to have a line they can convert. Like I said above, if you don't have a full line of reserve due to vacation or training, you may not be usable to them.

Looks like the 32 First Officer R-24 lines, which will pay WB rates in Nov, were evenly split between the top 50% and bottom 50% of the bidpack.
I wonder how many were knocked out by vacation?
How many involuntarily converted to secondary lines?

Why just the first 32 i would consider all r24 lines in the same category no matter what they pay. And i think only vacation protects you i didnt see anything about training.

I was merely framing my question within the context of the thread title
I find it interesting that the company was required to build 32 "good deal" R24 lines at Widebody Pay as a "penalty" for undermanning the 767
But, with the possibility these lines are "converted" and made to fly over Thanksgiving...and maybe Christmas next month --- are these truly "good deal" R24 lines??
That may be why the FO seniority was somewhat equally distributed about the middle of the FO seniority list
