UPS loses CDC contract to FEDEX?
I believe UPS has verbiage in their FOM or OPSPECS referencing Center For Disease Control (CDC) flights. In addition to that, I remember being informed that various warehouses in SDF are stocked with various supplies the CDC would need in certain unfortunate situations that could be loaded onto UPS aircraft and dispatched in minimal time.
If this is true, not only did UPS fail to win the USPS mail contract, but UPS also failed to retain an extremely lucrative contract that may be worth it's weight in gold in the coming weeks if/when CDC flights are activated. Does anyone have any updated info on CDC flights? |
They reported in the Memphis news today that Fedex was delivering equipment/supplies to Liberia.

Liberia? Ebola? Sounds like a 100th percentile, Reserve sitting schmo will get those trips.
Pandas and kilts are a different story. |

Can't wait to see the photograph of the purple "haz-kilts" and the 777 with the giant ebola virus cell sticker slapped on to the side of the airplane!!

What's the pairing information? Curious as to whom is flying it.

If I were leading a group of fine young animals such as ourselves :p
I'd be flying the very first evolution and ensuring the situation on the ground was safe for my pilots to conduct follow on flights. Oooohrahhhhh GC Sass.... |
Maybe CGN is finally getting that Africa flying.

Absolutely NO CHANCE I would entertain these trips.
Try to draft me ... NO. Try to assign it to me on Reserve ... Sorry, I just threw up right before you called. Fly the necessary freight to wherever necessary and within range, then throw it on a boat, then throw it on a train or bus. Jeopardizing employees in the face of a lethal pandemic, without training or adequate gear is ludicrous. Corporate malfeasance. |

We only flew them MEM-LGG (Liege) last weekend. The "new" MD-11 operator Western Global then flew them into Monrovia, Liberia.

Neither document has reference to CDC flights.
It appears this document needs to be updated since UPS is no longer a "participant". |

"FedEx leveraged its global network of logistics expertise to move the supplies by truck and by plane from the United States to Europe as part of a special donated shipment. From there, the shipment was moved to its final destination in Liberia."
My guess is that the supplies were consolidated in CGN or CDG and then flown to Liberia on a third party aircraft. |
You'd think without that pesky CDC requirement we'd free up resources and not need Cathay to fly a freighter of Apple stuff into KSDF this morning.

Hopefully we told them they can just keep the pallets and cans

Couldn't you like take two crews, fly it to Europe, take a rest period. Then you could fly it to Africa, unload it, and get the heck out of there that same day?
