No, my assumption is not that CRS is smart. I said they would let people drop trips if they were smart. They won't, and they're not. They think they way to get trips filled is to force the people who have them to keep them, and that's dead wrong.

Well, Albie, consider yourself lucky for squeaking one in before they changed the policy back (as they did per the FCIF that just came out). Tried to drop a trip on a day with almost nothing open, and max open a big number----denied for insufficient reserves. I suspect that no matter what the numbers are on that day, everything will be denied. I wonder if that's just the week before Thanksgiving, or all month. And in my seat position, people pick up every open trip.
busdriver ... I've been trying to tell you ... I've been on MD-11 Capt/MEM RB for most of the last 6 years. Nearly every schedule change request has been DENIED/INSUFFICIENT RESERVES! The only way I've been able to be home for family obligations has been to call my ACP or use vacation.
IT SHOULDN'T BE THAT WAY ... THE SYSTEM IS BROKEN!

Put the request in to drop days at least 20 times. All will be denied.
Then call CRS.
Aske the scheduler to EXPLAIN why it won't be dropped.
Drivel and BS will ensue ... the computer controls it Mr. Pilot, I can't do a thing.
Then, since you won't be satisified, ask for the manager. Same story.
Then try again to drop via CRS.
Magically, it works. Sometimes.
If you try to drop too far out, i.e. more than 4 days, it won't happen.
Of course, we do have a sick bank in the event you take an unfortunate tumble down the stairs or fall off a ladder. But that's pretty rare.

The CBA should allow any pilot to drop a block of 2-3 or more R-Days and subsequently have those R-Days put into open time.
Plenty of pilots will consider picking it up via M/U.
Hmmm ... let's see, grab a couple of days on RSV to pad the wallet?
Of course, I'm a FDX pilot.
Working extra is part of my job description.
