A bone to quiet the troops? |
I was trying to figure out if this was good or not. Seems apparent that it ought to be, though since I'm rather paranoid, I'm wondering if there is a way to get screwed in this.....
Hoping this means they aren't going to do the usual in December. Put 10 plus standbys a day in open time, pretend like there are no reserves, and disallow any trades, even over the same footprint. I would think it would be a benefit to both the crew force and the company to do so. |
It's for the Company..........that's all

Just reading the latest FOM change, and saw this one:
"•New paragraphs added as the result of Regulatory changes: FedEx Express crew members may not use a wireless communications device or laptop computer for personal use from arrival at the aircraft for departure until leaving the aircraft after arrival, unless it is in accordance with FAA-approved operational procedures. This prohibition includes any personal use by crew members of these devices, including, but not limited to, talking, texting, bidding for schedules, reading or accessing the Internet. In other words, all personal use is prohibited, whether or not the device is in "airplane mode"." So even if you're delayed for hours, you are prohibited from calling, emailing or texting your wife/husband or taxi that was going to pick you up. You can't call and cancel a jumpseat, or rearrange a flight. Even if you're sitting there waiting for mx, doing nothing. I guess we'll be exiting the aircraft and going into ops to do that. Hope there aren't any delays. Of course, we are still instructed to use our personal cell phones to call GOC/MOCC in the event of a pilot deferred mx item. |

Childish action by our company, I feel like Dad just took away my phone....this has got to be the most ridiculous rule I've ever seen.
Where is "FAA approved operational procedures" defined? So, if a text comes through unbeknownst to me, and I look at it, I violate the FOM....great..... Two can play at this game, because if you read it, it says, the rule does not apply to crewmembers operating a jumoseat...so, I'll just get out of the front seat and sit in a jumpseat to make a call...BRILLIANT!!! |
I wonder, specifically, what the general term "Regulatory changes" means (as far as, "New paragraphs added as the result of Regulatory changes") . Doesn't say FAA regulatory changes.

Eff that. Sat Phone, ACARS or radio. Unless someone wants to pay my cell phone bill. When that happens, I'll use it to call GOC. Until then ... . |
