Extension in the field

FedEx question. Cannot find the section/paragraph in our contract that deals with the companies right to extend your trip in the field. My mind must be really foggy this morning. Thought it was 48 hours (domestic).

12.8.a If a pilot’s trip is extended into time originally scheduled free from duty at base, such extension shall be limited to the following, unless the pilot consents to a longer extension:
the Company may extend a pilot:
on a domestic trip up to 48 hours into time previously scheduled free from duty at base; or
on an international trip up to 96 hours into time previously scheduled free from duty at base.
maintenance or weather disruptions particular to the pilot’s specific flight shall, but only to that limited extent, provide the Company with the ability to exceed the 48/96 hour limit without the pilot’s consent.

Thanks. That was it. It looks like crew scheduling committed "an error". The new trip extends 50 hours, vice the contracts 48 hours, into the original trips at base duty free time. And no, No one asked us. We got the dreaded, "Call crew scheduling", when we arrived at our original destination/termination ramp.

One of our really smart guys has developed a software utility tool and one of the add ons is the contract in html. You can put it on your pc/mac, android/iphone, or tablet.

Makes searching the contract very easy, one of the most useful "little" pieces of software I have owned in the past 9 years.

This last summer I was extended in the field domestically 4 days for MX. I requested that my FO be released after 48 hrs and was denied. The contract para. about the company can extend more than 48 hrs was quoted to me. What I found frustrating was that each day we seemed to be sitting on a new broken airplane. As they fixed one, they launched it with an inbound crew who brought in another MX bird.

Just another example of the company reinterpreting loose language in the contract!!!

I'm sure someone will correct me if I'm wrong, but I thought after 48 hours you start getting paid at 200%? That might be a good deal if you don't have family obligations at home

150% the first 12 credit hours

200% all credit hrs after that

True. So, Mayday, if it was based on TAFB it would actually be 45 hours. It's also possible to hit 12 CH well before you've been out an extra 45 hours, depending on aircraft and what you get extended for.

I don't know has it been grieved. This might be an example of the pilots failing to enforce strong language.
