Sad to say, most of the younguns' here never got to fly the greatest aircraft to ever come out of Long Beach. I'll give you a hint, it was and still is the most beautiful airliner ever made.

I agree. After flying the Mad Dog for 5 years, I still think that the DC-8-73 is the most beautiful airliner ever made. Thanks for also recognizing that.

Always a fan of the DC8, I think the 8's that were reengined with the CFM 56's were the most awesome!

The Mad Dog (MD-11) was nick-named "The Scud" (after the Scud missiles of Desert storm fame) when it was first introduced because after it was launched you never knew where it would land! You can have it! DC-8, now thats a real jet!

I disagree, after spending 5 years on stretch 8's and 12 years now on MD-11's with 9 years on the 757/767 in between, I can assure you the MD-11 is a very capable aircraft. Like the DC-8, it is very rewarding when flown properly.

Now you've done it!!! Defending the MD-11 will only bring out all the weak pilots and their horror stories about what a piece of sh!t it is! Personally, I think it is just like any other a/c - you have to fly it and not let it fly you.

And when all of your mounts have been rendered into beer cans the DC3 will still be flying and earning.

The all wonderful, graceful L-1011?

6 years on the DC-8's. Both 63's and 73's. Beautiful airplane and safe.

13 years on the MD-11. Awesome flight management system. Not as beautiful and not as safe especially with any kind of side load on the gear.

But all the Boeing's and Airbus's I've operated fly much better than any Douglas model.
