FDX-Mil Leave, Veterans Day & BZ Cookies

Anyone check out the reception in the "George Jetson" lounge last night in Memphis?

There was lots of cake and specially wrapped BZ cookies!

Your CP was there quite awhile, but I didn't see him interacting with too many "flying pilots"

Were the BZ cookies for our past efforts...current efforts...or those expected over peak?

Anyone else see the irony here?

Discuss

ps - I didn't see him wearing his Contract Now lanyard (??)

FDX-Mil Leave, Veterans Day & BZ Cookies

I thought the cakes and cookies were a nice gesture from the company. My previous company would never have done anything like that. But after seeing BillyMac sitting right there in front of the setup I decided to divert to my usual coffee and popcorn snack. ;-)

Fedex999999 11-11-2014 02:00 PM

Here, have a cookie. And don't take mil leave over peak. But thanks for your service.

That's what I saw.

Laughing_Jakal 11-11-2014 03:19 PM

"Let them eat cake!"

The Walrus 11-11-2014 04:05 PM

I miss "O".

DLax85 11-11-2014 04:17 PM

And sure enough the FCIF came out today

He directly stated that "Capt DT" will be calling commanders again for those scheduled to serve their Guard/Reserve units over peak

"Capt" ???

Is that the title he'll use?

Thanks to all who are continuing to serve in our Armed Forces

Serve proudly --- and then spend the necessary time you need over the holiday season with your spouses & children.

You've earned it. They've earned it!

Captain Doctor General DT to you!

BM is truly a POS! I'll have a doctors note and be on mil leave December 15th! What a turd.

matty 11-11-2014 05:47 PM

Is he really this tone deaf? To put out a message like that on Veterans Day?!

Look...Captain Shaguar...I understand we're short over peak. I understand you want us to give you early notice. I understand you want us to avoid serving during FedEx's most busy time.

BUT, I don't understand why you would send this message out on Veterans Day?! Send it out 2 days from now. Send it out yesterday. Send it out never! General Zod is going to call regardless...so, why bother to send it out?!

As the cool kids say...smh.

...His lack of SA is incredulous

Hopefully the crew force is more observant...more thoughtful...and more intelligent

Albief15 11-11-2014 06:30 PM

Actually, the FCIF makes me feel really patriotic. It makes really, really wish I was still serving in the Guard this year.

Jetjok 11-11-2014 06:31 PM

What a crock of crap! If I, as a commander at a Guard or Reserve unit, fielded a phone call like that, I'd explain that although FedEx is an important part of today's environment, it does take a big back seat to military necessity. Pure and simple. The laws are the laws, regardless of what FedEx management thinks. There's just got to be something in the water down in Mecca-Red-Necka, which turns smart people into dummies.

Timing is everything, be it good--or in this case--indescribably bad. And no, he did not hit "send" on the Happy Veteran's Day FCIF. With all due respect, sir, there is nothing that your military liaison needs to "work" with our military commanders. This is a threat, plain & simple. And it is noted--yet again. Thanks for unifying our pilot force even more. :)

My Negotiating Committee speaks for me.

Concerning the BZ.....it sure would be great if all 4000+ pilots nominated someone for a BZ. That would draw some attention! To what, I am not sure. But it would be sorta funny. ;)

It kind of makes me want to take more, just out of spite. Is this the effect they are looking for?

How about nominating all out guard/reserve bros who serve during the holidays for a BZ? Nah...never mind.

JollyF15 11-12-2014 06:06 AM

Two of our pilots I know very well had their commanders called last year to bully them into not taking Military Leave. The calls started something like this "This is General Delta Tango, I'd like to speak to someone in charge preferably a Lt Col or above." One of the commanders actually had a pilot go non-current to fly in December because he was concerned about future pilots getting hired here. The other stood his ground, explained to Delta Tango that he was breaking the law by even making the phone call, and basically told him to ARGO (if you remember the line from the movie ARGO, I think you will catch my drift). These actions are illegal, unpatriotic, and plain wrong. To send out this kind of FCIF on VETERANS DAY is unbelievable. To not send out the yearly "thanks for your service" msg is unforgivable. I don't think anyone is that dumb, but I've been wrong before.
OBTW -- There is no embellishment in this msg....

I've seen some poor leaders in my time. This one just got added to the list. He and the Ops Grp CC should have gotten fired for that.

I guess they were counting on us not going to war with less than 60 days notice. Wonder what the War plans assume.

Remember the story about someone in the crew room telling him that being a PhD from Memphis State was like being a Colonel in the Salvation Army? Now that was funny!

Laughing_Jakal 11-12-2014 11:37 AM

In my old line of work

Man how things seem to have changed. In my old line of work, any civilian, or military (Despite their perception of their need to know) who called up to one of our units requesting information about a specific pilot's currency, or general unit readiness (i.e. can you get by without one or two guys for a while?) would at least raise the question of fishing for OPSEC. While it would be taken for face value...the information would not be provided, but a report to Intel or the OSI would be appropriate.

You'd think a General would know that.

max8222 11-12-2014 03:11 PM

My wife is the Admiral of our house and has a PhD in telling me what to do. Maybe she should call crew scheduling and ask them if they really need me on reserve over the christmas holidays. Maybe they can move my R days to Jan so I can be around my family during Peak holiday time!

2dogs 11-12-2014 03:27 PM

It's going to be a huge paycut, but.............I have carryover into December which I'm going to conflict with a one departure line AND I won't be making it up. Screw you BM! Merry fu€king Christmas.

Looks like shoulder surgery for me. Probably going to miss all of peak. Can still write programs one handed to keep busy during rehab. :)

I recently flew with an FO who IS his wing commander, and has a number of FedEx guys in his command! I wonder how that conversation will go! ;)

Welcome to the club. Had major ankle surgery 2 weeks ago. Won't even be able to talk on it for another 3 months! Won't be back to work for 5-6 months! Still haven't been docked a min of sick yet, and won't for 2 more weeks! :) Rotator?

No. I get your drift, but you're not factoring in the very real fact we all have unit members with apps in at FDX. We are very good friends with these guys, know their families, and want to help as much as we can. If "our unit" gets flagged by the General-Dr-Capt as bad actors, we perceive that our bros may not get picked up. Is that all kinds of f%#ed up? Absolutely. Can we prove discriminatory hiring practices? No. We balance our unit needs with the needs of our members. Do I look forward to the day I field the call from DT? You bet your a** I do. We won't jeopardize our units combat capability to please FDX, but we will consider our unit's rep while our guys are getting interviewed. I may not like it (nobody does), but that's reality right now. At least until someone banzai's and files a lawsuit under USERRA.

I retired from the reserves in '04. Unfortunately, I would love to be able to drop mil leave on these pimps after that ill-advised, ill-timed, and totally inappropriate screed on Veteran's Day no less. Classless, tacky, crass, and unpatriotic are just some of the words I can write on this forum that can be published.

My story.... my O-6 boss was called and replied, "if you want him to work for FedEx when he's scheduled and needed for military duty, then I'll have to fire him." End of discussion, we were never called again.
