FDX-EWR deviation question
 

I haven't done a deviation out of EWR in a long time. Scheduled block in from Paris is 0550. I assume we still have to drive over to the Customs office on the other side of the airport, so can I make a 8:05 a.m. USAir flight without sprinting through the airport? Will Golden Touch drop me at the pax terminal after customs or do I have to come back to Flt OPs, if yes how do I get back to the pax terminal from Ops? Thanks in advance, as I said it's been a while since I've been to EWR. BB

I don't do EWR often and I don't know if it's a time of day thing, but I've always cleared customs at the airplane there.

Last I was there (been a few months admittedly) we were still driving to customs. However I was doing exactly as you propose and no problems at all making a flight around the same time (8'ish). Golden Touch took me by the Pax terminal after customs and I gave him a few extra $. The customs guys seem to be making an effort to clear us as quickly as they can. Still a PITA tho.

Thanks Hoya, the customs thing is PITA. I'll go for the early flight then and worry about plan B if we're late. Just wanted to make sure it's doable without stressing about the time. BB

Did CDG-EWR two weeks ago. Customs/Immigration officer met us on the plane and cleared us on the plane too. Van to security then to hotel. YMMV
