FedEX instructor
Are there any current instructors that could answer a few questions? Do you like the job? Feel free to PM me.
Thanks, AWACS |
Applied
Well, I applied today. I guess that I will have to find out in the interview if it is the place for me.

Depends what your options are. If it is your only one then go for it, meanwhile we are hiring line pilots that are going ahead of you on the seniority list, about 2-3 years worth. Also while here as an instructor can you get hired at a major? Some of them are hiring upwards of 100 guys a month.

I have my apps in, but no luck. I am currently flying a CL-604 as PIC, and I have A320 PIC time from a former airline that went under. Also, Flightsafety picked me up, and for 3 years I loved the job. I am just trying to figure out a long term career path. Other options don't seem to be presenting themselves.

Flex, or pro?
|
Not sure what Flex or Pro means? I believe the job opening was for a full time instructor, not flying.

Here's a data point...had one interview to the line (not a client, btw...) that they turned down.
Personally, I think its miserable way to do business. How much help can I expect from a tech pilot or sim instructor who does the job for 3 years, teaches the pilots during upgrade courses, then gets told "thanks but no thanks...now get back to work..." I would hate to be the next guy to do a training event with that guy. Two points. First---if you take the job, know what it is, and what it is not. What it is NOT is a guarantee to the line. Second--if you get a shot at the line, I'd advise you to do some professional interview prep...if not with us with somebody. But for the record--its a ****ty way to treat people. I don't like it. |
Thank you for the advice.

AWACS Pro (Professional) - Not a line pilot, no seniority #, not under union contract, only teaches in the sim It used to be that "Pro" instructors automatically "flowed thru" to become "line pilots" after 3 years, or at least were guaranteed of a "line pilot interview" then That's no longer the case and may change at the company's discretion Professional Instructors are not covered under our CBA To save costs, it appears Fedex is trying to hire more Pro instructors to replace current Flex instructors |
