...yeah...it was an interesting conversation....
Her: "...so...you fly around the country 10-15 days a month for your airline. Then you come home, and 7-9 days a month you fly an F-15 over the Gulf. WHAT is it you are wanting to buy?..."
Me: "..you know those actors in adult films? You think they ever have sex when they go home?...."
Seriously--we have taken turns supporting each other's interests for 26 years. Permission? Never required, but its nice when the person you sleep with doesn't think you are complete idiot...and I did make a solid case. The investment is now amortized by 50%, as we have another pilot in the house now when my oldest got her license, so that makes it all the sweeter. Its nice to share the plane with the next generation of pilots.
The big winner in Memphis? Signature and Wilson Air... I have to believe that fractionals, corporate flight departments, and owner/operators are going to be doing more flying into MEM as the airlines draw back some.

As long as that whole conversation took place during either a commercial or half-time, it was exactly the right thing to do. It's always better to get her on board in the initial stages of an acquisition, rather than trying to get her approval after the fact. Good job Albie.

What is this, the Dr Phil show?
From what I could tell, Delta is only cutting three flights. I can't say I blame them. At some point, Memphis is going to have to decide it would rather attract tourists than feed them to local street thugs. Until then, FedEx deadhead tickets probably aren't going to be enough to pay the bills.

I could see the company sending out a daily corporate, DC-9, flight early every morning to a pax hub city like DFW to catch your connecting flight.

Back in 1991 or so after the merger with Tigers, there was only the 727, DC-8, DC-10s to commute on from most of the major cities. There were about a dozen guys that commuted with their own small planes. Three or four from Atlanta. One from Birmingham. Several from the Dallas area. One from Nashville, and some from the Chicago area. During those days AMR had two facilities. AMR north and AMR south. AMR north is were Fedex's corporate hangers are now days. AMR north had an extra ramp space they never used and as long as we parked there and bought gas from them they would not charge us a tie down fee. It would be nice if Fedex would allow us to park over in the maintenance hanger section. If they could do an annual too that would be awesome. Seriously, at one point Fedex could have bought Delta for less than they paid for Tigers and operate it as a wholly owned subsidiary. One more reason future pilots will choose United, Delta, AMR, or SWA over Fedex. The ability to get to work.
