You're right, it kinda is moronic...

But I live:
1) Where the wife is happiest
2) Where it's warm and
3) It has the culture, activities, lifestyle that my family and I enjoy

Commuting is not even a factor in my opinion.

If cost of living is not in the equation. You can try the L.A. area or the SF Bay Area as you have multiple FedEx options from 3 different airports as well as hubs for multiple airlines.

Cargo Can,

I had read your post earlier this morning, and had started to respond, when all of a sudden I said to myself: "self, this is one dumb post." So I deleted all I had written and when out and snow blew the drive and walkways.

Now as I reread it, I've come to the conclusion that I was accurate in my initial assessment. How can one make such a complex decision as this, while only considering one assumption, that of commuting convenience. That would be like buying a new house, based only on the size of the walk-in closet in the master bedroom.

However, with that in mind, here's my list, in priority order:

1. If you're married, live where she wants to live, preferably close to her parents.

2. If you're not married, with no plans to get married in the foreseeable future, live wherever the hot chicks live, assuming you're built that way.;)

3. If you're not married, but are planning to get married, see #1 Above.

4. If, as you mention, "Cost of living isn't a factor", see #'s 1, 2, and 3 above.

End of recommendations. Hope this helps.:D

....what's wrong with Memphis? Why not just live in domicile and take out a life insurance policy on your family, by a Hummer with a .50 top-swivel mount, and enjoy the racial diversity?
C'mon, man!!! Living in MEM is the shizzz!!!!

Bingo! We have a winner. Life's too short to live in ______ . Yet there are many who wait until retirement to move, build a house, start over... How much time do we have in retirement compared to our working lives? I know, I know, to each is own.

To paraphrase Sam Kinison...'MOVE to where the fun is....AHHHHHH!'

Live in an area were there is more than one FedEx city with 50 to 60 miles of your residence (or whatever distance you're willing to travel). More options.

ORD. Easiest commute at FDX. Multiple flights to MEM, IND, AFW, EWR + worldwide D/H. Also, not many FDX guys in the area.
