The unincorprated sections of Shelby County have been divided into "Reserves" for the cities -- Memphis, Millington, Bartlett, Lakeland, Arlington, Germantown, Collierville . . . I think that's all. If you settle in, for example, the Lakeland reserve area, you will be in the county until Lakeland decides to annex the area. You cannot be annexed by Memphis.


The problem with Cordova is it's in a Memphis reserve area.

Everyone's experience will be what they make it. If you want to look for the bad, you'll most definitely find it. If you want to look for the good, you'll likely be a happier person for it.


Yeah, the murder rate in Lakeland skyrocketed last year -- from NONE to one. Wow. It's time for everyone to leave Lakeland, I guess.



Don't get me wrong, I won't try to convince folks to like Memphis. If my total experience in town was sitting in the crashpad and standing around the counters during the hubturn (tonight's movie is Speed 2 starring Sandra Bullock, any crewmember from Flight 1847 please come to ... blah blah, New Release, ... Capt Joe Mistit please go by crew checkin . . . how's the popcorn . . .) I would hate Memphis, too. However, if a guy is looking to move here and make the best of it, there are plenty of good things to be found.

What a stupid post. Not Ohabs', but yours! He wasn't recommending that anyone move to New England, nor was he suggesting that Biage not move to Memphis. He was only stating what everyone there knows, but doesn't talk about, and that is that Memphis is a tough city. His suggestion of learning about the area before uprooting ones family is a valid one. Anyone who moves to Memphis, or any other new city, for that matter, should do their (and their spouse's) homework, so as to be aware of how the city and surrounding towns work. Memphis is about the 10th largest city in the U.S. and has the 13th highest murder crime rate. So they are "better" than par. It's not all that. It's all the other stuff that goes along with it.

Personally, I love where I live and have never thought that the commute was that big a deal. I do however realize that by not living in domicile, I have not maximized my earning potential, but that too is ok with us. My wifes' family and friends are all here and as the old saying goes: "if mama's happy, then everyone's happy" is true. I didn't want to uproot my family and move to a place where they would know no one. And then be gone half the month flying.

As far as everyone moving to New England, you're all welcome. Everyone except you that is. ;)

Try the Orange Mound area or the Nuttbush area. Housing prices are dirt cheap, and you can get your grass cut at bargain basement prices!!!!

The murder/crime rate in Germantown and Collierville is ridiculous. I heard someone got their bike stolen and a kid skipped school last Wednesday. You drive by some bad areas near the airport, but I have done so for 10+ years with no problems whatsoever. The city government is an embarrassment for sure. Live in the suburbs and I bet you will be glad you moved. Those few extra days you spend with your family will be well worth it.. Just my opinion...

huh? Crime and murder "rates" are per capita, so being 13th is WAAAAAY worse than "average" - unless there were only about 26 cities. :rolleyes:
