UPS Jan 29th Class

Well, I talked to Buz the other day, and I'm in the Jan 29th class. He said that the following seats/domiciles are available:

A-300 SDF (7)
DC-8 SDF (2)
B-767 SDFZ (3)
B-767 ONT (10)

All FO seats.....no FE seat on the Diesel 8.

I'm sure I'll see some of you guys there. Shaggy, you sure changed your avatar fast!!!:)

Freightpuppy 01-13-2007 12:44 PM

10 ONT FOs. Wooooo hoooo! Keep em comin'

Shaggy1970 01-13-2007 02:29 PM

Arch,
I had to bro, not having a job sucked! Look me up when you get in, first beer is on me!

FliFast 01-13-2007 03:19 PM

v2plus25 01-13-2007 06:26 PM

Congrats everyone! Anyone know if there are any dates set for Feb classes yet?

Capt America 01-13-2007 07:20 PM

Congrats Archie, I took to wiz quiz and was told to expect the 29 Jan or a class in FEB. I look forward to talking to you guys.

Good Luck

MANY of the new hires are going to the right seat because the back seats are currently clogged with former captains over age 60. Many of these fine aviators waited for our new contract to get ratified last fall before deciding to retire, now many are waiting to see if the mandatory retirement age gets changed to >60.

If a NH does go to the FE spot, it will be a very junior slot that won't move much until allowed to upgrade to a window seat. Contractually, you can't upgrade while on probation unless the company allows it. They haven't been allowing it lately except for the new ANC domicile opening bid(?).

Some of us have been released early, and we are all pay protected however.

v2plus25 01-14-2007 08:42 AM

Newhire FEs USED to be pay protected. That was under the old contract and does not apply we have been told. So FEs from the Oct 10th and Nov 16th classes will NOT be pay protected in their second year.

So here's to getting released early!

Are you sure? That blows!

CactusCrew 01-14-2007 11:01 AM

Congrats Archie !

Might even be an ONT slot for you !!

v2plus25 01-14-2007 12:12 PM

Yes I'm sure. I'm one of them.

I'm imagining the break room on the first day when you say to the class "Hi, I'm Captain America. Which one of you guys is Archie Bunker?" Blanks stares and the sounds of crickets chirping followed by the arrival of the men with the large butterfly nets and staright jackets.

Brown Cow 01-15-2007 04:03 AM

Any pilot who has gone from the front seat to the back seat will not have the opportunity to upgrade again to Captain. The FAA, including their new rug-munching leader, will impose fences as to will UPS and FedEx

The FAA may, but the new contract already has language for backseaters "upgrading" the catch is there has to be a vacancy. They can not simply displace back to a window seat, and if they are within 2 years of age 65 the company may elect to "bypass" the position.

Bench 01-15-2007 10:26 AM

Capt America

How long did it take you to get the Whiz paperwork from UPS once they gave you a contingent offer? Do they use Labcorp or some other Lab? Are you near a facility that they use? Haven't recieved mine in over 10 days and was wondering how long it should take or if I should call back?

Thanks in advance.

Jolly 01-15-2007 01:11 PM

Bench,

They should have overnighted the packet to you. I called on a friday and got the package Monday and tested that day. There was a Labcorp nearby for me. Perhaps they are trying to locate a facility for you. You should definetly call Dawn either way. Good luck, hope to see you soon.

Do you really think the contract overrides the FARS?

Bench 01-15-2007 04:27 PM

Jolly,

Thanks for the info. I don't have Dawn's #. Buzz only gave me a number for Angie Miller. I will try her in the morning. Thanks again and hope to see you soon as well.

No my point is it will be the FAA not UPS who will decide. If the FAA allows it there is contract language to allow backseaters to come to the front seat again.

FliFast 01-16-2007 07:00 PM

Got the call today. Not sure which class that might leave me in, but looking forward to working with my fellow new hires and the professionals that have built Brown.

How does UPS decide who gets what? Do you have any input to where you want to go?

Buz asked me on the phone what my preferences were, and told me that new-hire class seniority is determined by age. In other words, the oldest guy is most senior, and gets first choice.

Actually, we use a dartboard.:o

Hey Archie, sorry to here you won't be freezing your privates off in ANC this winter! Maybe next year! LOA! You are one lucky devil. Welcome to the last job you'll ever have :) - hopefully in your own backyard.

Thanks. Can't say that I'm all too upset about not getting ANC. :) I've got SoCal blood in my veins, and any temp below 50 degrees F, I've got my winter parka zipped up.

Unless there are 10 guys older than me in class that want ONT (chances somewhere between slim and none), then I should get my first choice. See ya around campus!

Not to rain on your parade, but don't count on it. I know a guy that lives in San Diego that got SDF 757. Another dude in his class lives in MIA and wanted SDF 757 got ONT 757. I guess they asked if they could just switch bases and the company freaked! Poor guy from San Diego has been stuck commuting to SDF for over a year while new hires go into ONT because of our wacky bidding system. Hopefully you'll get ONT but don't hold your breath. In any case, keep us updated and keep the ONT FOs comin'!!!!

P.S. Another thing....I have heard of them switching airplanes on people while in class....you might even end up in ANC.

a2b boxhaul 01-17-2007 02:18 PM

hey archie,
I figure you get watever you want, cause brown is brown. I hope to see ya in the system soon.

As long as I have a job wearing Brown in less than 2 weeks, I'm jiggy with it. :D The ONT domicile would have just been icing on the cake for me. I'll let you guys know...........
