I was the engineer that operated the former 215FE and 216FE out of VCV. The Valsan 727s were the first jets I flew. Quite different than the Cirrus I flew before that!

Heck, that was nothing compared to the voice-activated environmental system!

Even on a 787 I don't think the captain can casually say "How about another half-log on the fire" and have anything happen.

Although the limitation was that you could not get variances in degrees, only logs or half-logs.

The last three planes of that batch went to England. They've turned them into sprayers for a company called Oil Spill Response set up after the Deep Water Horizon mess. They've added a spray bar from pod to pod forward of the aft airstair.

As Twin Wasp says, N217FE (G-OSRA) and N207FE (G-OSRB) are here with the OSRA team/T2 Aviation. Technically they are based at Bournemouth (BOH) but only yesterday I watched G-OSRA blast off from STN after some work at a MRO. Still a fine sight and sound

The third airplane, N481FE is still sitting at Lasham UK carrying temporary reg of N727EL

Default FDX 727 Autothrottles

The 727-2S2F's that did not go through the Valsan conversion had working Autothrottles.
