FedEx plane plane makes emergency landing in STL

Glad it made pfc... Looks like it was just an indication. They'll probably tell us to ignore smoke warnings and verify you're actually on fire before you may cost PC some bonus money...

I can't find it. Was it an email to 11 crews only maybe?

I saw a report on Yahoo about it. Sounds like the crew did a great job.

It wasn't on pfc. sorry should have made the sarcasm quote. My neighbor (who has nothing to do with FDX) told me and asked if everyone was ok....

Nice way to spice up an AM Out & Back. Different day this month and that would have been me.

Bring your "A" game every day.

I read that someone was injured, I assume during the egress. Anyone have any info on that?

60% polyester pants and an escape slide - connect the dots :D

On a serious note: Capt continued flying, FO replaced and original FO out sick! Not sure what his injuries were but he didn't continue with the flight. :(

Notice the slide in the video picture.

That is what the slide looked like when they egressed, or very close to it. It did not fully inflate. I understand the slide was still all wrinkly and no where nearly as pumped as the hard bouncy inflation we see during emergency equipment training. If it had been a life raft, it would not have kept the water out.

FO as first out was seriously injured.

But not on to original destination. Instead, he operated a different flight back to Memphis. A new Captain and FO came to STL (Captain operated trip, FO jumpseated on same FDX flight) to finish the Out & Back sequence to MSP and return to MEM.

I can't see an upside to continuing to fly after experiencing a smoke/fire land ASAP emergency. I'll need at least a day to let the adrenaline settle. But that's just me.

Thanks for pointing that out -- I had not noticed it when I first looked at the link from my phone. The slide was definitely UNSATISFACTORY. I wonder if the R1 slide would have done any better.

At least the capt is current.

kwri10s 02-25-2015 05:48 AM

Never forget the fire dept is all about the potential fire on the plane. NOT a healthy crew. They want to get people off and fight the fire. Off and uninjured off sometimes are two different things.

I heard they ignored the FO lying on the ground in pain and just wanted everyone else to get off the plane by coming down the same slide that just injured the first guy.

dozerf22 02-25-2015 03:11 PM

Well there goes any confidence in the slides I might have had...

I wonder if they pulled the handle on the rest of the fleet what they'd find? Standby for FAA inspections required.

Raptor 03-15-2015 05:46 PM

Anyone have any info if the slide truly malfunctioned? Or was it a case of the wind blowing it under the plane?

Any update on the injury? Was it serious? Pilot ok now?

busdriver12 03-15-2015 07:29 PM

I sincerely hope the FO is doing well, and it was a minor injury.

However, any injury at all, he really needs to not be using his sick leave, this is a definitive workers comp injury. Anything more than minor, FedEx could be looking at a lawsuit, for the typically defective slide. Has it ever worked in any emergency evacuation?

I flew with someone who said once you accept workman's comp, you cannot sue the company for damages, so choose wisely.

I also heard the FO on this flight broke 3 vertebrae.

Rumor control should have put this to bed by now, instead of leaving us all wondering what happened, but what have we heard?

Crickets.

I know there was a 777 slide that inflated perfectly in a non-emergency situation at the weekend :-)
