Default Delta pilots grow a backbone

Maybe it will be contagious..

So what affect, if any, will it have on our (Fedex) negotiations and the memberships expectations?? Fedex is often compared to Delta on several levels. One obvious, is regional, the other is cultural, aka lack of unions (for all except pilots), and a reputation for treating employees well and compensating them accordingly.

Now thats the common perception, often carefully cultivated by a very affective internal PR machine. Fedex pilots have several issues we have tried to resolve with management over all our contracts since we voted to unionize, some involve bring money to the table, but several either no cost or low cost.

Hopefully Fedex pilots will see that we too should demand a real improvement in our next contract and not settle for paying for our own pay raise as the Delta pilots found when they dug into their TA. Let's keep the pressure on both out elected reps and the company to give us a real pay raise and set the standard rather then chase it.

My guess is Our side will demand at least equal pay rates " + a Nickel" to what Delta TA just turned down, without giving in on Company's offered Concessions.

That Said, I am fully expecting the "Direct Negotiations" to start very soon from the Company PR machine.

This is my prediction.

If there isn't a TA in the next couple of weeks Expect a Company Letter that states:

"The Company offered ABC & XYZ and your ALPA leadership turned it down"

"Your Union Leadership is on a very destructive path and it's current stance isn't sustainable in this highly competitive business market"

"We have a Bid bid out with many new Captain awards and Upgrade opportunities"

"Due to ALPA's unrealistic expectations, FDX's BOD has been forced to Cancel or Delay Aircraft deliveries, thus we are forced to cancel or need to re-evaluate this bid"

Maybe we should start a contest.

Who can craft (Predict), the soon to be coming, Management PR negotiations missive.

The pilot winner who most accurately predicts the next PR missive will get $1,000 or a paid weekend in Las Vegas.

History has shown that Management will attempt to "sell" the upgrades as part of a significant PAY RAISE,

"Look at how much more money you and your family will be taking home after a 3% pay raise AND your upgrade! ... And you'll get to fly a shiny new airplane to boot!"

The new airplane orders have already been applied to future fuel cost savings. That might make them harder to cancel. Don't fall for the decoy. The new airplane orders are replacement aircraft for for old (gas hogs that are VERY EXPENSIVE TO MAINTAIN) and tired aircraft

Upgrades are NOT a pay raise!*? Next they'll be trying to sell us this as a pay raise ...

Forget it Redeye. You've already stacked the deck heavily in your favor to win that bet. Did you work for a company PR department in a previous life?

Yes, it's amazing how much the Delta move is scripted right out of the playbook. We have seen the same thing before, and I think you are right. We will see it again. Almost verse for verse. We see it on every negotiation cycle, either for a TA, or an LOA. Same old song, different day.

Nope, but I could use the $1,000 Bucks.

You didn't have to work hard to come up with this missive. I think word for word we have heard this once, possibly twice before!!

Both the company and FDX ALPA will have sifted through the train wreck that was Delta's C2015. I can only hope our side can best take advantage of any positives that are to be gleaned from this and minimize any negatives as we move forward.
