Brown 727's on the chopping block

There's a meeting tomorrow from which we'll probably get a feel for how soon the 72's are leaving. Something about an AD for cracks in the wing box costing too much.

The network plan as of 1/17/07 has no more scheduled lift for the 727's after 8/21/07.

Can anyone say "displacements"?

If this rumor turns about to be true, can YOU say MD11 in ANC? Just kidding, v2. How are things?

UPSFO4LIFE 01-22-2007 06:10 PM

You can also say bye bye to many many retreds!

what a nightmare this will be. We need more lift, not less, and the training is about maxed out as it is. Standby for wet leases?

727 freighters available for lease?

Hey Brown Guys ...

FedEx is about to have a bunch of 727-200 freighters just sitting in the desert collecting dust. I wonder if they would rent them?

We hear they're a bit expensive to maintain but pretty reliable jets aside from that. And oh yeah, they're painted in funny purple and orange colors.

Makes one think about why Delta ever sold ValueJet those old Dc-9's anyway? Wonder if they regret that decision now?

I thought last week they were talking about pulling more 727QFs out of storage. Guess they couldn't find any RR engines.

1800, yeah, I've got everything FO domestically in my system bids so hopefully the few classes below me will take the brunt of the ANC displacements (if there even are any). Other than that everything's been goin' just fine. I'm just glad training is over. 10 weeks is bruuuutal!

That's the question everyone is asking.... what would replace the 16 72's? Maybe they can have a -8 or 75 make a thru stop on their way to the sort and back? I don't know.

Do you have inside info we don't, cause Cassel's letter shows 94 200s at the end of 07, the same number we have now. Plus, it will take 2-3 years to get a susbstantial number of 75s converted and on the Ops Spec. No spare 200s for awhile, IMHO.

Is this the AD?

Are there any 727 F/Es that will be bidding to the right seat of other equipment, or are they all age-60+ pilots. thanks.
