While the medical requirement may be restrictive for many, it absolutely provides a safety net for GA.

The existing third class has prevented at least one want-to-be-commercial-airline-pilot friend of mine from beginning flight training. Frankly, in this particular case I believe it was the best possible thing that could have happened. He is medically capable of holding a driver's license but not of flying an aircraft.

That being said, ALPA probably should have checked with the membership on this one....

Nice insult.

However, FYI, one definition of bureaucracy:

"Any organization in which action is obstructed by insistance on unecessary procedures and red tape."

Given the context of YOUR post, you could have been referring to the government, but it was more likely that you were referring to ALPA's involvement in the issue at hand.

So, apparently, "bureaucracy" is too layered and complex a word for YOU to be using.

Given the above reply, its a good thing familiarity with the complexities of the English language isn't a part of YOUR 1st class. Although, English proficient IS a part of your license, you might want to oppose any linguistic testing Congress may come up with.

I agree with the first part of your post. However, I don' t think its necessary for ALPA to poll the rank and file on purely safety issues. Those are usually more black and white than grey, as your story illustrates.

Moron, you insulted me first when you took the clear meaning of my post me made it what you wanted it to be. And yes that definition is the definition I was shooting for when I was describing the FAA.

You assume motive of others when attacking their posts. You should strive to be civil and not do that. While you have your dictionary open look up moron. You will find that its traditional definition fits you exactly and is not an insult, rather it is a description.

Oh I'm quite familiar with the complexities of the English language - I just wasn't easily confused by them as you were.

I am however pleased that you recognize ALPA for what it usually is:

P.S. - I corrected your spelling errors for you. I know, it's that pesky English language thing again.
