I think it's safe to say that the incentive to pad a resume with the odd type rating (which once was common practice) and to "hang oneself out there" in the process is rapidly dwindling, given the current and forecasted hiring climate at the legacy airlines...

Used to be Airborne Express was a desirable career choice, back in the day...

Let's see a 767 PIC type rating and international heavy jet experience naw that doesn't help your resume at all! Not to mention decent starting pay and working conditions that hasn't changed much since the Airborne Express days. What was I thinking?

I have no clue what you're talking about.

You are absolutely right... I'm sure the line of interviewers in the parking lot in Wilmington will be massive. All waiting for a chance to chug down to Mexico all night (in a heavy jet) to sleep the day away. Or perhaps have a real adventure and get to fly to Kingston to sit there on the ramp for a six hour turn. I don't mean to emulate your cynical sarcasm but why on earth would they pass up a chance to go straight to Delta, American or United (not to mention FedEx or UPS) just to get a 767 type rating at ABX?

ABX Air is but an ACMI carrier now. An airline competing for a part of a niche market. Seasonal furlough notices regularly go out to the junior guys (junior guys with 15 years of seniority). Management threatens and concessions are made on the backs of the crews. However, a lot of crews are happy because money is good with the current staffing issues (Jr. manning) and there is good language in the CBA for that but the QOL is not what used to be there 10-15 years ago (wasn't it 16 days a month, racetracking multiple destinations i.e. getting home every day for some people and plenty of 4 day week ends?).

I'm not going to argue that there may be some pilots out there that think flying at ABX Air is the way to a solid airline career somewhere else. It would just seem that the options have vastly improved and are on the rise.

I'll give you a clue: Please don't feed the troll. The day that you find a meaningful construcive post from this guy will be the day that all DHL contractor pilots are paid "FedEx/UPS plus a nickel."
