You are right! I did that for many yrs., and thought that I was working for someone who cares. Always making sure the load team did not load the airplane the wrong way, or loaded hazmat without you checking it. I don't remember how many times they tried to kill me. I had my fair share of 35*C + without A/C or -5*C without a heater. New loading procedures are about to be implemented that will make the Pilots work more.

I haven't had any of these things happen. Guess I must be lucky

Very lucky! I guess you never had an ad-hoc flight out of IND or MEM in the early AM, where the loading team doesn't know what an ATR is, less they know how many zones a 42 or 72 have.

One of the joys of never having to go to MEM or IND That's MAC land, and I'm quite happy to keep out.

The SHV base crew used to fly to MEM on the weekends but that didn't last long since that base got understaffed pretty fast and they gave that weekend flying to MAC.
The MEM ground crews were bad, you had to keep a close eye on them, but operating there was cool though.
The company is not bad, the schedule is awesome but they don't pay enough and it is not the place to go if you want to build time, be it 121 or TPIC time, you won't fly much there, maybe 300 hours a year.
The ATR training has a lot to improve. Flight Safety does a lousy job and a lot of people got pink slips when I was there, the ATR is not very automated, you have to work flying that thing, but it is great fun once you get the hang of it.

You do the same flight every time, that gets old, although that can be improved if you get the floater position.
If there was a way to fly more I would have stayed.

I have been with the company for about six months and wouldn't say I love it but it's not that bad. I came here from a regional where the pay and schedule was pretty crappy. The schedule and routes really work with my needs right now so that might be another reason I'm liking it.

Agree. The training has to improve. But not all the fault is on FS. They had some great Instructors in the past, now they are all retired or gone. The quality of people hired in the last few years has a lot to say too. At MAC they had been hiring from the bottom of the barrel. That is what they can find for the crappy salary they offer. The ATR is not easy to fly. Don't go to the first day of sim without opening the books, cause you are already behind. That is for ANY airplane.

Did anybody tell you that flying for a Feeder can open the doors to FedEx? I heard one guy at MAC saying HR told him so. They said the company is “talking” to FedEx about a flow through....

What? The ATR is the easiest turboprop I ever flew. By far the most boring airplane.
