Default Landing wt

Our autoland is 481.5. Is that what you're referring to, or max landing wt?

491.5 is a customer option, comes at an initial and recurring cost that FedEx didn't want, plus autoland is not certificated for it. UPS went for it, I believe.

Ah, okay. We are limited to 481.5 for autoland, but 491.5 is correct for max landing weight. I can scan in our limitations page if you don't believe me. Then again, what do I know, we only have 24 on property.

Just for you Huck, some Boeing thoughts on autothrottle usage with the A/P off. While they mention some of the benefits of leaving them on that others here have, in the end it looks like they agree with you(I do too btw).

Dan you are all right!

There it is, in big letters on page 4, written by the manufacturer of the aircraft:

Potential disadvantage of A/T use with manual flight:

Airspeed crosscheck skills not exercised.

Remember that line in a few months when a certain accident report comes out....

We definately could do a better job explaining to folks that your scan needs to be different, based on the level of automation. Remember your engine-out, hand-flown ILS? You looked at the airspeed a lot on that approach, because you needed to.
