Cool Agency

How does hiring pilots via agency help? Does any other airline in the US hire via contract agency? Seems weird

Originally they wanted a 24 moth contract but it eventually got dropped. There is no contract with Aero Partners which is the staffing company you work for.

It is my understanding that it was set up this way to avoid pilots being able to sue Jim Neff, the owner, like they did in the past for violation of work rules, compensation, etc.

Basically if you're employed by Aeropartners and leased to Western Global, Jim Neff is not employing you and isn't liable for any wrongdoings. As mentioned in a previous link, a few pilots at SouthernAir sued and won millions from Neff, so instead of properly paying pilots and treating them right he has chosen to take this approach instead.

It really is a shame because Western Global has so much potential to become such a great place. It has a great group of people working at the company, they own their airplanes outright, and have contracts beating down their door, but they show no interest at the top in taking care of those busting their ass every day to get this company off the ground.

I hope Jim Neff reads these threads because I have to ask, Mr. Neff as someone who has made millions and millions and are clearly set for life wouldn't you rather leave a legacy? Start a successful company that grows to become something great and provides hundreds maybe even thousands of great jobs for hard working families in this country?

After spending almost a year at the company I never even met the guy. I can understand if it was a huge company, but it's still a small company. Jim why don't you get out there, meet the people, fly a couple lines, and push a couple pallets? You have a great group of people working for you that can go above and beyond what is asked of them if you just show them that you care about them.

All the best to everyone at Western Global. I really hope it becomes what it has the potential of becoming.

Ah ha... Was wondering. Weird. Because the contract I received had the 24 mo included. Very vague, but still included. Just said the pilot will provide 24 mo MD11 service. Did some checking. Signing this opens up legal risk as there is nothing specific, and no mention of pro rated. Maybe they are offering two contracts?? Thanks for the infos

Nope. Everyone signs the same contract and they make it clear on day one of indoc that it may still be in the contract, but they legally can't hold anyone to it. Trust me there has been plenty of guys who have gone through training and quit with no financial penalty.

A lot of problems with SAI (when the Neffs owned it) were brought on by one each W.C. Before his arrival things weren't that bad. Not that great, but not that bad. It's all gone downhill from there.

The good thing about Jim Neff is that he makes money, so if he can find a market you guys will be flying.

That whole leasing company thing for a domestic carrier gives me deep concern. How's it working out? What are the daily pay rates? When you hire in are you stuck at the rate you contracted for? Are you out for 20 or 16? What is the average monthly rate that you are seeing or can expect? How are upgrades handled? What about bidding, is it just time off or destination as well? Longevity raises? Merit promotions, how is that handled and determined? What happens after two years? With right to work in FL are people being terminated for any reason at all?

I don't know if you are sarcastic or naive. He is part of Corporate America, that looks at employees as cheap labor that can be replaced. Not easily in WG case but Jim doesn't seem to care. A bunch of MD-11s with no GPS, ACARS, SAT phones or sleeping quarters and a bunch of MELs. It's been a year, he could have made it at least good by now that would make people stay.
It's not about successful company for him, it's money!!! He'll sell it in 5-7 years.

I was told no seniority. Daily rate. Guarantee 16 days. Anything over 20 is 1.5x daily rate. You can refuse at 20,,,

A little surprised the FAA isn't raising an eyebrow at pilots not being employees of the airline (operational control). And how would the industry be if this starts to take hold?

I got anxiety about the setup and didn't go through with it. At least not yet. Getting furloughed soon.

If you don't mind, who is laying off now. Everyone else is looking for people.
