Anyone done the Chunnel on a layover before?
 

Looking for some good advice. I have a long weekend layover in STN, and was considering taking the Chunnel to Paris for a day to see my daughter there. Then, returning the same way, a day in Cambridge, and back to Mempho.

Anyone ever done this? I know I've got a few things to check into first with JL's saga of French/CDG procedures these days--and it'll probably change--but giving it some thought. Just don't want to be standing there at French/British customs trying to answer why my passport isn't stamped right.

I've done it from Paris to London, pre 9/11. Gare d'Nord to Waterloo station about three hours. Should be easy to get from Cambridge to London and Waterloo.

From Cambridge, take the Train to Kings Cross Station (one of the stations bombed by terrorist btw last year). From Kings cross Station take the Circle Tube (Mind the Gap) to Waterloo which is right the Thames from BIG BEN and across the street from the "Eye" of London. From Waterloo STA, as MD11fr8 said, take the Euro Star high speed train to Paris.(3 hours 18 minutes.
From Cambridge the trip will cost (my guess ) roundtrip 160 lbs or $ 320 usd. If you are trying to do it in a day you will be pressed for time for any real visit with your daughter. I would go over the night or before if possible and come back the next morning. You shouldn't need a french visa because you will be a tourist, key word is "Shouldn't" Enjoy.

I was stationed in the UK and this is totally do able (sts). If you can stay the night even better, otherwise it will be a quick trip (7 hours of travel) just get your tickets before you go to make sure you have a seat. The visa is not required going to the EU as a tourist. Cheers have fun

It is a good trip either case. I sure do miss being on the rock and getting to the continent so fast. How offen do you fly that way?
