Fdx disputed Pairings

From The MEC

The disputed pairings for the month of March 2007 are below:

A300: #292, #293

A300 SFS: None

727: #400, #401, #403, #405

MD-11 MEM: #839, #841, #842, #3088, #3090, # 3091, Pairing 47

MD-11 ANC: : #223, #224, #234, and #236

MD-11 LAX: None

DC-10: NONE

These pairings will be listed in open time during the 36-hour window. It's up to each of us to listen to our SIG/PSIT and support the disputed pairing process. You are the last line of defense against disputed pairings – please be part of this defense.

The SIG/PSIT takes the issue of pairing disputes very seriously. Pairings are not disputed because the SIG/PSIT considers them to be merely "inconvenient." A pairing will be disputed when identified by the FEDEX MEC as having been constructed with unsafe, onerous, or otherwise objectionable flying. The contractual procedures and handling of pairing disputes is outlined in the SIG letter of agreement in your Contract. An excerpt from the side letter: "Additionally, if on a recurring basis, a pairing, disputed or not, appears in open time and is routinely avoided by pilots trip trading or eligible for make-up, OTP, etc., and therefore must be assigned to a reserve pilot, the above procedure shall apply." The "above procedure" referenced by the excerpt, would refer the disputed pairing to the Scheduling Dispute Board for resolution.

Disputed pairings should not be available in any bid pack lines and should not be assigned to any Secondary lines without a specific request, by pairing number, from the crewmember in the 36-hour request. Regarding those disputed pairings which the Company does not withhold from the bid pack-it is anticipated that, when the Company places any pairing that the FEDEX MEC believes is disputable on a secondary line, it is grievable under the Contract

As a reminder, once open time is released, you can then get one of these disputed pairings by:

1. Voluntary: Specifically requesting a disputed pairing (by number) on a secondary or custom line.
2. Voluntary: Putting "volunteer for general trips" or "general make-up" in as a request and then being assigned a disputed pairing in open time.
3. Voluntary: Requesting a trip trade into a disputed pairing.
4. Voluntary: Accepting VLT/DRF into a disputed pairing.
5. Involuntary: Reserve-an option the Company always retains for the operation of any legally-constructed pairing. This assignment is involuntary and may not be turned down.

One more thing; adding deadheads to a disputed pairing and making it available to another domicile is a clever fix to a predicament from a crew scheduling point of view, but it may not contain a solution to what made the pairing disputable in the first place. Please compare x-pairings to the original disputed pairing list to see if the pairing still contains the unsafe, onerous, or otherwise objectionable

I hope that people don't trip over themselves flying these pairings. It frustrates me that guys pick up these trips and make excuses why they are doing it. If anybody knows of somebody flying a disputed pairing on purpose, needs to talk to them and let them know that what they are doing hurts us all. We need to do a better job of policing this. MHO.

As I have personally found out, you can also get one involuntarily if on SUB. But you can decline SUB, unless it is a 30 CH sub and the disputed pairing was only 6CH :(

I guess the silence on this posting says a lot about what the fdx pilots think about disputed pairings. I bet you that with an hour of open time starting, all the disputed pairings will be gone. Did I mention just about all the disputed Pairings on the Maddog mem, are down to VCP. All those pairings are capt pairings. Lots of OW's.

Silence here doesn't mean anything. I didn't respond because no response was needed. You copied the union message on disputed pairings. Noted. I'm not going to pick any up and I suspect the majority of folks that read and participate here won't either, so, in this case, silence is golden.

I still have some faith in brotherhood. What are you willing to wager? I'll bet a case of beer or a fifth to be named. Yea, we've go 7 to 12% of guys just worried about themselves and this months pay summary. But, I don't think they can suck every trip out of every seat of open time in an hour.
