Ups and Fedex application process
Hey Guys and Gals,
I am new to this board and wondering if someone can help me with a few questions about the UPS and Fedex application. After spending many years at the regional airline level I am hoping to switch to freight side of the industry. I am interested as are most in UPS and Fedex. I am not sure that I have all the qualifications that they are looking for. I have 5650 hours total, all from the civilian ranks. Most the time, 4000 hours has been at the commuter level flying everything from saab 340's too dornier 328 turboprops. The last 4 years have been on the CRJ-200 while accumulating 1100 hours of 121 pic jet time. Are these numbers in the ballpark? If so I would really like to get my resume in and need help as to where to do it. Thanks in advance, Kevin Buechler |
Kevin,
Do you have a 4 year degree? If so, you meet UPS's minimums, so you're good there. Then it's just a matter of building that PIC time up and networking your way through. Right now the UPS application system is down, for whatever reason... |
Thanks for the quick response. Yes I do have a 4 year degree a bachlor of science with a emphasis in avition from St. Cloud State in there flight program. Second thing thanks for the update on the ups application system. I have a few friends at UPS and they were telling me to fill out the online application at upsjobs.com and I could not find it. I thought maybe I was not looking in the right place.

I have read conflicting information on FEx currency. I took it several years ago. Do I need to take it again before the interview or before class if hired?
I had 4 or 5 not so curent FEX results prior to my UPS interview. And I have been continuously employed by Part 121 carriers since 1989 ... FWIW ... in reference to your "conflicting" info on FEX currency. UPS will want a current (within 2 years) result. I had to update mine too get the interview scheduled, they required it. Was told to call back when I had current results. |
I guess that mine is not current for the interview/application process. I did the FE written appprox. 7 years ago and have been continously employed at a 121 carrier. But the minute I leave to start a new job the FE written will expire. So to answer your question I have taken the written and passed it approx. 7 years ago so for the application process it appears they want a FE written with in the past 2 years?

The FE written is only good for 2 years. After that it drops dead and you have to retake the test if you haven't been given a checkride to give you an actual "FE certificate."

Thanks Guys,
I guess I better break out the gleim and hit the books again. Actually, better yet just take one of those slam courses, ha. Kevin Buechler ps. It still doesn't help that I cannot get on the UPS site to apply or find the Fedex site. |
