TAB got some great beaches if you can hop over there. I be happy to help.. There is the HOliday INN express close to POS which is very convenient too...

Trinidad and Tobago layovers are the best! I had them every single day for six months while I was flying freight on that route. You have to walk outside the pax terminal and turn left on the sidewalk and walk over to the 2 foodcarts on the east side of the terminal and eat 2 doubles with sliced pepper. The best doubles in trinidad are at the airport terminal and only 2.50 TT. You can eat a full meal there for lunch for about 80 cents US. Then take a maxi taxi and head downtown for even more food and exploring.
If you are on a long layover, take a private taxi up to Maracas Beach and eat at the shark shack.
Or if its in season, head over to the stadium and see a Soca Warriors football club game. Those are the best, even though tickets can be hard to come by at times. Truely an amazing experience

I envy all you guys who get to see TT and I don't. Imagine I was born there and never reall had a chance to see the place. I was supposed to meet a friend of mine for carnival but he couldnt non rev down there. Thankfully I left early and went to Guyana for a week.
Convirator who runs cargo down there......would love to work for them and get me some TT exposure. Need to get me a TT passport too. That way they cant tell me how long to stay in my own country.

If its one thing from Trinidad / Piarco thats great is the doubles no doubt. ... Convair, glad u enjoyed it that much here at POS... It was neat during the Summit with all the action buzzing around POS. Im not sure we be having any upcoming soca warrior matches soon.. Will keep a look out on which ones be playing later in the year.
I know a few flight crews that will raid the doubles vendor and load up with it prior to their flight state side and they be enjoying it mid flight like the best thing since slice bread. lol They always come here to get their fix of doubles.. Maybe I start selling inflight .. it make a mint. lol
ABX air , DHL, Fed ex, they fly freight here....
CPatterson, cool photo. If you ever get down here, let me know ...
The crime situation is one you need to be extra cautious about when taking public transport etc. Usual precautions.

Things you need to do: Explore downtown, ride in a maxi taxi, go to a futbol game, and for sure, head to maracas beach!
Things you need to eat: Doubles, eat lots of doubles. If you dont know what they are, just ask somebody where you can get a double. They are aweseome. Eat at the shark shack, on maracas beach. Really good.
You will no doubt enjoy trinidad. If you really have some time there, I would recomend taking the ferry or a plane to Tobago. Tobago is much more of a tropical 'vacation' feel than Trinidad. Trinidad has more of the culture and tradition and the beachs are decent. However, the beaches in Tobago are really nice and tropical.

Yes... Thats right. Tobago is just what the Caribbean is about. Lush forest, nice beaches very peaceful and laid back. Its something folks from trinidad still go there for a vacation. Prices of things are generally high, its a high cost of living and with the recent inflation, things are prices out of this world. As you may know, so many come to the US to buy general stuff..
Some places do accept USD and all major credit cards etc but its advised to convert some cash to local Trinidad dollars once you arrive. Its 1/6th that of the US Dollar.

The last football match was in Tobago, last week. The ferry is good if you have a few hours to spare to make the crossing but its a hassle to get down to the docks with all the traffic and congestion to get on board! For $50 USD you can book a ticket on Caribbean Airlines Express and hop over on a 20 mins flight for a nice view as you cross the Northern mountain range.
If you like night life, there are a few good bars and clubs in the Port of Spain area and malls. But the merchandise etc arent as cheap or a selection as you will in the USVI or Bahamas so its usually very marked up in Trinidad. The hotels are not the greatest. The Holiday Inn express is a crappy 3 star and they charge $200 USD a nite.
Doubles are probably the only good thing out of Trinidad. lol I know where to get very good ones. The last time I flew on CO. the entire flight crew had bags of it on board and half way en route to IAH, they all were chowing down.. The purser took a whole bag heated up for the captain. lol They always come here for their doubles fix.
Carnival and Christmas are two nicer times to be in Trinidad.
Hmmm maybe it be good if I start a local hospitality outfit or crash pad for crews.. A bit of local hospitality and home cooked Trinidad food.
