I've been there a bunch, never had a problem with safety & security. If you plan to venture out at night, especially after some adult beverages, that's when you are most vulnerable.

Most unfortunate cases happen with a solo individual walking back after a few drinks. Yes, there have been things that have happened right in a daytime coffee shop. Just turn your S.A. up a few notches and you 'should' be fine.

Wink Great City But Be Careful

I flew JFK-Sao Paulo for four years and loved the city....but be smart. Don't wear any jewelry out of your hotel, no watches and I strongly recommend NOT carrying a wallet. Put a credit card and some cash in your socks or a safe inside pocket.

Taxis can be "OK" but use one that the hotel gets for you. If you walk the streets at night, go in a group.

I don't know about the girls. There are a lot of expats in Sao Paulo and we used to hang out at the Lone Star Cafe, run by a local who married a woman from NY and owned a restaurant in the city (NY) for years. A lot of Americans and Europeans there.

Great city but keep your eyes open !
