Where’s the home basing?

Couple questions for the current GV pilots

GV Pilots,

I’m considering applying for a FO position (Phenom 300). Just wondering, of the eight days on how many nights are you typically in a hotel? It seems like you would be in hotels much less than the typical NetJets pilot, which would be a big plus to me.

Can you please give me some idea of how your duty schedule typically looks on the eight day block? Do you go back and forth from night duty to daytime?

Also, regarding the live organ transport flights... if Martin State is fogged-in well below minimums, can you go for a satellite airport with better weather and meet a med crew there to accept the cargo and finish the transport via ground? Just wondering how you all typically approach scenarios like that. Thank you!

Typically you might overnight one or two of those nights. Potentially you COULD overnight 7 of those nights but those occasions are extremely rare if they happen at all (I have never seen someone go out for the entire 8 days in a row here). Every now and then you may get a 4 day trip but we like to try to bring the birds home every night so we can service them properly.

During the 8 days you will typically be assigned one of three duty periods. 5AM-7PM, 9AM-11PM, 6PM-8AM. As a general rule, if you have not been assigned flying by your 12th hour on duty you may duty off. So for example, if you are on the 5AM-7PM shift, if you havent been assigned flying by 5pm, you can duty off till the next duty assignment.

We try to alternate the shifts a bit so you don't find yourself doing 8 back to back graveyard shifts in a row. It doesn't always work out but we do try. We also try to accommodate pilots requests as much as possible. We have pilots who LOVE the overnight shift. We have pilots who hate overnight flying. So we try to assign the shifts accordingly.

At roughly 5-6PM you will receive an email with your duty assignment for the following day. If a trip has already been assigned for the next day it will be noted in the same e-mail.

Recently we enacted protections that prevent a pilot from being assigned a showtime between the hours of 1AM and 5AM without 18 hours notice. We did this to improve our pilots rest and quality of life.

If MTN is below landing minimums or the runway is closed for whatever reason we default to BWI. All that happens between the dispatchers and the organ teams logistical dept.

For example, once we needed to take an organ to Charlottesville, VA but it was socked in with fog. So we landed at the closest suitable airport, Dulles (IAD) and arranged an ambulance to take the organ to Charlottesville.

There was a lot of bad that happened here in the past but they recognized the problems and made a huge change in the way they work with the pilots. So anything you read about this place prior to August 2018 isn't applicable anymore.

Please let me know if you have any more questions about Grandview. I came over here from 121 last summer and its been great.

ALTsel, thanks very much for your reply and all the helpful info. Is GV still looking for new FOs? I haven’t seen any ads on climbto350 in the past week or so. Thanks again.

Yes, we are still looking for a few SICs.

SIC pay is between $55K and $60K depending upon experience. Due to Wyvern standards any SIC candidate must have 2500TT and 1000 MEL. Pilots need to live within a reasonable drive to MTN (No more than about an hour away).

Send me a DM if you are interested.

I applied to GV, have lots of time and live 45 minutes away from mtn, but no reply to my application. Is there a certain profile of pilot they are looking for? of pilot they are looking for? Should I visit and drop my resume off?

Why were you guys looking for a new cp? The last one seemed like a really good guy.

Is Austin still a base? Haven't seen it mentioned lately on the company job page.

Hey folks, anyone have any information about Grandview Aviation based out of Martin State in northeast Baltimore?

Hello everyone, Just got a e-mail from JSFirm letting me know about Grandview having bases in both Atlanta and Chicago, and hiring pilots. Any GV pilots can take a minute or two to provide any information about this. Appreciate any update, Thanks!

Grandview revive

Reviving this old thread,
Any updates on GV? I see they are posting job openings again. Is it still mostly day trips? Do they have a training contract? Any inputs would be appreciated. Thank you.
