Swift Air - The truth

Right now miami flying is very little. All there is right now is 1 cargo plane and one acft for ICE. Everything else you’re being plugged in to the the system to fill things.
Nobody right now is breaking guarantee anywhere in the system.
Before Covid MIA was very busy. Hopefully when Cuba reopens sometime it’ll return a little bit. Normally it’s all day trips.
Miami has shrunk down base size wise for now. The most junior 6 crews have been displaced out of Miami to AEX BRO or SAT.

But have they really? Or are they just doing a good job of making it look that way? Is MX getting any better, or worse due to trying to save more money now? They basically came out and said they think they're paying too much per-diem, and created a bunch of bases in cities that already didn't have much scheduled service before COVID-19 and displaced guys from Miami and Homebase into them so it became the pilot's problem to figure out how to get to work in and home from a city with one CRJ/ERJ flight a day from one hub that has 40% of the seats blocked off, or up and move half way across the country. Not to mention the CVG hybird lines. They can't figure out how to get bid lines published before 3 days to the end of the month. The new chief pilot has been silent, really. Tell me how you see this as an improvement? Are the changes for the "better" because they actually want to start doing things right, or are they because they suddenly can't afford to pay the fines they were getting, or someone in the FAA started getting them worried? Notice how as soon as COVID-19 decimated their profits, the problem children that were causing them to get fined and sued were removed from their positions pretty quickly.

The "Glass is Half Empty" guys always find something to complain about.

No furloughs, just a drop of quality life which will probably get worse next bid period. Fortunately we all have jobs.
Just internally the company has issues to work out that have worsened over the summer in order to “improve” and only got worse instead of helping.

Sounds like they're doing better than most PAX only carriers.

Nobody has furloughed yet because that was a stipulation of the CARES act. That will probably change, and 10/1 will be a reality check for the constant glass half full optimists, but until that date, you can't say anyone has furloughed. 50% of the fleet is still parked, Miami which used to be the biggest and busiest base is now dead and the company is resorting to nickel-and-diming away the per-diem and creating bases in cities that are next to impossible to commute to in order to save on travel expenses for crews and cut losses. There is no good solution, but this is just not a good industry to be in right now or for the foreseeable future.
p.s. the new manager of crew scheduling has already resigned. Official story is due to a family emergency, but this is Swift. He probably saw what he was going to get himself into and thought better of it.
