Eligible f/o’s? Here? Isnt that why they hire DEC’s?
I wish people would stop coming here. Not because its a sharty place to work...cuz it would force them to put more money into the pilot ranks.
Alot of these DEC’s are lucky theres no technical or flying interview. Chief pilot needs to stop just giving the seat away.
FOQA will correct that.

Not everyone is eligible, from FOs without meeting 121 reqs, FOs on proficiency watch or have some sort of issue preventing them from upgrading, believe me they’re there.
2 in my recurrent have been picked to upgrade. They just finished their sims.
4 are in upgrade OE right now. More coming after March madness. We don’t do training in March.
2 guys upgraded from November class with Boeing time.
1 DEC in January with one upgraded after sims in the same class. Both highly experienced
1 rehire in February class was a swift captain here years ago and has returned, obviously all seniority lost.
There’s probably a good 10 waiting to upgrade right now that are eligible, but probably won’t start till April. Company can’t pull every FO offline to upgrade. It’s impossible. We would have to park airplanes.
1 has opted to delay upgrade to some personal issue that prevent him from doing so.
Looks like 4 in the next upgrade class which are pretty senior FOs. So that will mark 10 upgrades for 2019 not including those move up after sims. Another handful are eligible that came from the regionals that started over the summer and fall.
I don’t like The company hiring DECs or upgrading junior guys right away, but from a business perspective they’re trying to keep the airline running. On a morale yeah it’s a hit to some guys, but you have to look back and crunch the numbers on the personnel we have available. Those that have been here a couple of years can understand.

Word on the street is that Pan Am Flight Academy has a “flow” for their CFIs to go to Swift Air and Miami Air, is this true? And if so, have you flown with such CFIs to 73 FO pilot? Just curious how it goes for them on the line

Heard the same rumor at the training department. The new owners are for sure seeking to take Miami Air (737-800's). I know the company wants to go away from classics and confer the fleet to all -800's.

According to the higher bosses, they are working on flow through from both the bottom and top.

That’s actually a 2 year old program. However no one has ever gone through it. The problem is the agreement is broken because a 2500TT CFI just has zero experience flying a big jet. Why would someone stay being a CFI for that long when they can go to a regional when they reach ATP or rATP mins. Just doesn’t make sense and doesn’t help the airline keep it stocked with experience.
The only bridge program that’s really active is with the 1step prep people. It’s a preferential interview process if they complete it. They still have to meet our requirements and pass an interview. I don’t really agree with it as it deters is from us selecting our people. Plus why would you pay to get this job if you meet our requirements.
