Swift Air - The truth

Nobody has furloughed yet because that was a stipulation of the CARES act. That will probably change, and 10/1 will be a reality check for the constant glass half full optimists, but until that date, you can't say anyone has furloughed. 50% of the fleet is still parked, Miami which used to be the biggest and busiest base is now dead and the company is resorting to nickel-and-diming away the per-diem and creating bases in cities that are next to impossible to commute to in order to save on travel expenses for crews and cut losses. There is no good solution, but this is just not a good industry to be in right now or for the foreseeable future.
p.s. the new manager of crew scheduling has already resigned. Official story is due to a family emergency, but this is Swift. He probably saw what he was going to get himself into and thought better of it.

Oh, so you’ve all received 60 day WARN notices before August 1st for Oct then right?
Yeah, didn’t think so

I was talking about the other airlines. Yes, a few regionals have shut down so those pilots ended up out of a job early, but as of now there has not been a single involuntary furlough anywhere that's still operating. On 10/1 that will probably change, but as of now nobody has been furloughed. I don't know what Swift's plan is, but if 50% of the fleet is going to be parked for the foreseeable future, they will most likely do something. I'm sure that was probably one of the hidden reasons behind the creation of the new bases in cities that they know are next to impossible to commute to reliably, even before COVID, and the displacements of pilots to those new bases from MIA and homebase will force some guys to retire early, quit to do something else for a while, or become an excuse to fire people for not being able to get to work on-time in the coming months. If that doesn't work, I'm sure the WARN notices will be typed up before long.

swift has to do warn notices? I honestly have no idea. I was once furloughed from an ACMI while on vacation. That sucked when trying to non rev home and I had no idea I was furloughed.

Even if they are supposed to, they probably wont, and act surprised when called out. Just like with everything else they do. A few names have already disappeared from the bid qual, even after everyone is supposed to come back from LOAs starting September. So as I've said earlier, I'm sure they are hoping that the new bases and impossible QOL will thin the herd a bit without them having to do anything.

Now the doom & gloom part (for the glass half empty folks)
For companies with less than 50 total layoffs, and a few other exemptions.... like:
Faltering company: When, before a plant closing, a company is actively seeking capital or business and reasonably, in good faith, believes that advance notice would preclude its ability to obtain such capital or business, and this new capital or business would allow the employer to avoid or postpone the shutdown for a reasonable period;
Unforeseeable business circumstances: When the closing or mass layoff is caused by business circumstances that were not reasonably foreseeable at the time that the 60-day notice would have been required (i.e., a business circumstance caused by some sudden, dramatic, and unexpected action or condition beyond the employer's control, such as unexpected cancellation of a major contract); or
Natural disaster: When a plant closing or mass layoff is the direct result of a natural disaster such as a flood, earthquake, drought, storm, tidal wave or the similar effects of nature. In such cases, notice may be given after the event.
Still, since this has been a known situation since May, claiming any of the exemptions would be difficult.... which is why most carriers that anticipated furloughs already sent the WARN notices. Both Spirit & Frontier have since announced no furloughs even though they sent the notices.
