Question Contour Info

Does anyone have any info on Contour Airlines in the west... QOL, training, schedule, overall impression/opinion, etc.?

I previously worked for their parent company CFM. They’ll chew you up and spit you out when they’re done with you.

Thanks QOL... any chance you could give a little more detail as I have a couple offers out there. The downside I see is the $, but not sure about the rest.

Im still employed here. I got hired during the last days of CFM and now Contour

Its a growing company and has growing pains. However, they are growing and hiring and conditions slowly improving. If you want to upgrade and get part 135 PIC time in an EMB135 this is the place to come

Schedules on the EMB side seem to be 4-5 on with around 3 off. Pay is fairly competative. I know captains are 70+ and fo’s are 40

FO pay is somewhat competitive. CA pay is not competitive at all. You have PC12 captains making the same or more out there. Not cool

The PC-12 remark may be true, but it’s also higher than starting PIC pay at a regional and higher than PIC pay at comparable Part 135 regional jet operators such as Ultimate. For people upgrading at 1500 hours, going to 75k a year immediately beats waiting several years to hit that at a regional.

And since with the exception of some of the ex-Onejet guys live in base, not having to commute to work is major QOL factor.

It’s a personal choice.

I agree, it's a personal choice. As I mentioned before, it's a great company and they treat pilots really well.

New payscales at regionals like skywest will take you to that pay in 18 months, and first year pay with the bonuses is quite close actually. If instead of comparing year to year you do the math for a 3-5 year mark, you see the difference.

Anyways. Happy Contour employee here

Will they allow you to commute or must you live in base?

Also depends what your long term goals are. If you really think you’d stay at a regional for 3-5 years, then I agree. But the only reason to do that in my opinion would be to get a seniority number with the specific carrier you’re wanting to flow to. Otherwise, folks upgrading to PIC at Contour probably have 1000+ hours of TPIC time in a regional jet after 18 months and from there you can probably bypass a regional altogether. Plus, having also looked at the pay scales, unless you really do upgrade at 18 months at a regional I don’t see how you get to guaranteed comp of $75k as a SIC in year 2.
