IDK who’s in charge of hiring there, but maybe they should be replaced with someone more suitable?
Clearly an issue other than experience. Perhaps your friends personality rubbed some one the wrong way? Even for Omni, K4, and others, people need to do an interview prep service.

Who really knows. According to the person involved, they were offered a position by (verbally) the CP only to later be told they changed their mind. Unassumingly by the higher in the chain (DO or above). Of course there can be other reasons, the person in question is not current PIC and hasn't been for a bit. Maybe there are looking for plug/play in that area; DEC at this level can be more scrutinized than a new-hire FO.

Either way, whatever occurred it's only a guess by all of us.

I heard the same thing.

Either way, their hiring practices put them in a position where they didn’t have any FO’s who could upgrade. Either because they weren’t good enough or because they didn’t have enough experience.

With all these incidents and accidents out there, maybe it’s time CPs and line pilots have more say in who’s hired and who’s not.

That is not very accurate. There are literally dozens who for whatever reasons choose not to bid the upgrade.

This is true....Omni does have FO's who are qualified enough to bid CA. They just don't want to for whatever reason....something we all can understand and appreciate. The down-side is *if* the company had been smarter, their end of the CBA would have a version of "up or out" language; therefore, after certain triggers, require qualified FO's to become CA (or leave the company) regardless of their individual wishes

IMHO, the company would have to pay through the nose to get that. A glance at the seniority list shows a significant number of guys who are obviously happy sitting in the right seat, picking their trips, and have been for *many* years.

My airline has forced upgrades. Think very carefully what you are asking, and make sure you get enough in return.

Just for the record....I don't believe in 'up or out' programs. I prefer to work for an airline that has enough going for it so there aren't even published (flight/experience) mins for upgrading (i.e. regional). Unfortunately life isn't always that way and IMO many carriers, other than majors, will need to address this issue to avoid the previous Omni trap.

There are plenty of FO's that qualify for upgrade, myself included, but upgrade here is no joke. The nature of the flying has lots of sits and I'm lucky to get a landing more than once a month, all while trying get more proficient. It took a year, but I finally saw some Pacific flying, other than Hawaii. I'm not even NAT qualified, yet. I want to see way more before I try.

Interview went great! They hired him on the spot! Then phone calls were made....requires 2 training events and the JO was killed Atsg company to Atsg company. Same as it was forever at K2 to K4.
