Can any Omni pilots elaborate on how the training environment is for the 777 and 767?
3 of my friends are furloughed flight engineers from Omni and they're warning me not to apply over there because of how bad things were when they were on property.
I hear that very capable pilots have unnecessarily failed checkrides, proficiency training and even IOE because of certain check airmen that have a need to justify their existence to mgmt.
Also heard that if mgmt doesn't like you, it's common for them to have a check airman fail you so they can have an excuse to fire you.
Sounds like a hostile relationship but hopefully things have gotten better. Just trying to figure out if it's worth trading my dead end pilot job for a job at a company where the mgmt/pilot relationship is so poor.

I don't work there, but just from what you posted it sounds like your friend's advice is enough...

Low experience, poor airmanship, and the inability to transition to newer two pilot airplanes are the reason those pilots couldn't get through training...Omni has had a very high success rate from pilots with only turboprop time, because those pilots could fly and were prepared...Not because they were liked by the Checkairman or company...

If you can fly an airplane to ATP standards the sim training will be no problem. Just as with all companies there is always that guy in the training dept. and Omni has that guy and a couple of others as well. As far as management having check airmen fail pilots so they can fire them, I don't buy that. If management has a reason to terminate you they will do it themselves. There is a union at Omni, so yes the relationship between management and the pilot group is not the best. Hostile? I don't think so. As far as the engineer upgrades go, yes there were many failures. But you have to remember these folks had very little time and the ones that had more time had not flown and were not up to standards. These people were not forced to return but did so on their own and was faced with learning a new aircraft and also prepare for a type rating coupled with an ATP as well. The best advice I could give to anyone who wants to work here or anywhere is show up prepared get through training, get on the line, have FUN on the road, stay out of the politics , study every now and then for your next training event and then the day you wake up and you hate your job QUIT. Life is to short to hate doing what you are doing. It's bad enough your miserable but why make everyone else miserable. But hey what do I know?
