Omni Air

Just curious if anyone has gotten the call from Omni Air?

I did... from the DC-10 Fleet Mgr. Spoke to him a few weeks ago to set up an interview. Tried to get him last week... But alas no return calls from him. Good luck with your quest. Spoke to a friend I used to fly with in a former life, and the smell of job action is in the air.

Omni interviewed 5 this week. 4 were invited to class. Hiring into both the DC10 and the 75/76. 10 class early Mar. 75/6 class late Mar.

If you get the call, the job is yours to lose. Sometimes that happens. Otherwise, flight department seems to be very pro-applicant. They are all pilots and if they called you, they want you.

Encouraging news. Thanks for the update, this unemployment sh1t is getting old... Any info on a hiring total? How about attrition?

Flight time requirements

I meet all of their requirements except I am about 100 hours shy of the PIC requirement. Are they sticklers about that?

I also might be able to get a LOR. Would a LOR help my chances?

An LOR should help your score. You all set with long haul international and glass experience?

SurferLucas 02-20-2011 03:13 PM

Sent in a resume lastnight and hopefully have a LOR with a friend there...don't have long haul international, but have international experience and tons of glass time.

Omni seems like it might be a fun operation :)

"fun operation" ?? - no it is a job we take seriously

Fun, as in one of B6's five core values. We all take our flying jobs seriously, and most of the time we have fun doing it. It's not like your trapped on the tenth floor of a burning building, relax.

DC8DRIVER 02-20-2011 05:40 PM

I'm not sure they need glass experience because they are hiring into the 10 as well as the 75/6. I would think long haul and/or heavy experience would be more valuable.
I would guess that they are flexible on the hours, but you may be right seat for longer that way.
I have no idea about hiring numbers, but they did say that there has been a lot of attrition and I believe that means they will be hiring several classes.
Also, I'm pretty sure that a recommendation is REALLY helpful.

I have glass experience with the Citation. I flew the Bravo which has the Primus 1000 avionics suite and UNS-1 FMS and the Saab has an EADI/EHSI. I don't have any long haul experience though.

Other than keeping yourself occupied, long haul flying is quite benign. Completing of the Class II Nav log and plotting chart cuts down on the boredom. Bring a good book or puzzle book. Cockpit on the 75/76 is probably a bit larger and more comfortable than the Bravo:D.

Just a tad... :P

Any former Starcheckers at Omni?

Anybody get call yet for march class?

No I didn't

How soon do you get results after the interview?

Bill Lumberg 02-23-2011 07:03 AM

Which planes were they hiring for during these latest interviews?

stuart716 02-23-2011 09:00 AM

They have been running classes for the DC-10 and the 757/767.

seoceancrosser 02-23-2011 09:13 AM

They are hiring for both airplanes last I heard. You will know if you are hired or not before you go home from the interview. If you do end up here be sure to complete OE before you resign. The big O will try hard to take away your type rating if you don't complete OE.

Only the FAA can revoke your type rating.

I agree with you Captjns, but their justification is that until one completes OE then one has not completed the training program. I have personally watched the big O take that stance and be successful at it.

Not true depending on how the training program is structured. For example, under an AQP program like the one we have now you have to finish IOE and have your final line check before the license is considered validated.

I did not know that. I guess OAI's FTOM contains languate to that effect. Geeze... I've been out of the US market too long.

Side bar... ran into a couple of former HP guys in the sand box flying BBJs. Great talking about old times. The left before east joined west.

ultradrvr 03-09-2011 12:42 AM

we have fun on the light twin, and we take our job seriously. Isnt that the way its supposed to work?

ultradrvr 03-09-2011 12:44 AM

The new fleet managerfor the 10 is Rick Davis. Call him and tell him you were working with Larry trying to set up an interview. Interviews are on tue/wed/thur so call him on mondays.

Did Larry retire?

bloomerpilot 03-17-2011 05:39 AM

Could someone from Omni post one of their more recent trips? Just curious to see what it looks like. Thanks.

Start your Omni career on the right foot with a lie. What a great suggestion!

Hey Mr. Self-Proclaimed Thread Police,
You're not ignoring if you write a post advising others to ignore, silly.

i was on the first 12 days of the month. did a 3 day trip, straight to vegas to sit reserve for about 5 days, then finished up with a 2 day trip. on my days off now then go back for 6 more days of reserve. or you can just take all 18 days on at once.

Actually, I was advising others to ignore. Obviously I had read it or I could not have posted a reply to it.

It seemed to me that you had jumped into the middle of a conversation where some participants have been in contact behind the scenes (p.m.ing) and you accused someone of promoting a lie.
I believe that most all of the others on this thread know exactly what they are saying as many work at Omni or have recently interviewed there and we all have a vested interest in promoting good advice to those who are struggling with how best to land a job.

However, thanks for looking out for bad advice. Maybe best to look on another thread because there hasn't been any here.

Since this is a public forum, I posted based on what was out in the open on the thread. You shouldn't fault me for not knowing the inner workings of Omni or for not being privy to Private Messages. Based on what was visible to me, my accusation was sound.

If it's posted on an open forum, anyone can chime in. That is just how public forums work.

RJtrashPilot 03-17-2011 10:46 AM

Let's not turn this into something that's going to cause the thread to be locked, please.

Way2Broke 03-17-2011 11:44 AM

I'm with RJtrashpilot on this one. Can't we all just get along? ::tear drops from my eye:: :)

Kiss and make up and play friendly now.

I'm doing some domestic flying this week and into next. After that, they don't have anything on my schedule. Although, I'm pretty sure all roads lead to Shannon. :D

I hate to be so vague on my replies, but we can't really say much based on the nature of the flying...
