Great, now back to talking about Miami Air.

What's the latest on growth and hiring? I've sent my stuff in, typed on the "Guppy", and, crickets!

Thanks again.

This guy says "I don't mean to insult anyone" but insulted honest, hard working, and positive MAI pilots like myself even after I and others told him to stand down. I mean, this argument is pathetic "Oh my airline is better than yours". Kids flying planes - that's what it sounds like.

Anyway, yes Braniff, moving on. I think they have a class coming up in June.

Default Anything new

When you deadhead on an another carrier is it in coach/middle seat always? Seeing as MA flies worldwide, that could get tiring after a few months.

New C.P. and lots of hiring coming but as others, in this part of the business are finding out, it's hard to recruit and retain people.

Its usually in coach but in 3 years I have only been stuck in a middle seat once. Maybe I am lucky.

Default And

What is currently the longest flight you DH on?

Also if you need to double crew, must someone sit in the jumpseat(s)?

Thank you Anthony.

Miami Air generally buys the cheapest ticket they can find for getting you from where you are to where you need to go. They also tend to not buy the ticket until the last minute in case the schedule changes. So the flights are usually not direct, and usually in economy. It's up to you to get your hands on a non-middle seat by whatever means possible. (You'll spend a good amount of time checking the seat map over and over the night before.) Sometimes you're lucky, sometimes your not.
Every once in a while the only tickets available are non-economy seats, but that is a rare occasion. They usually find other routings first.

It's charter... so it's not like there is a typical route. Go to priceline or whatever site you like and look at the cheapest routing from "A" to "B" (no limit on number of legs or limos) and that is what a deadhead looks like. Miami to Los Angeles could be something like: MIA-FLL (via van), FLL-CLT-PHX-LAX (via American). 19 hour duty day! International is the same story.....

Not sure what your question is about the double crew. On augmented flights, the jumpseat is occupied below 18,000 feet. Then in cruise there should be a crew rest seat in the back for the resting pilot(s).

Augmented crews? I don't think aircraft configurations have changed. The crew rest area as described in the above advisory circular, IMO did not meet the requirements of Advisory Circular 117-1. Oh yeah, they may block out the last two rows on the Fluff, but what the heck, what's the big deal when a pax with a weak bladder slams the door on the biffy every 15 minutes whilst trying to cop some zzzzzs. Pillow and blanket on the jump seat was far more comfortable, quite, and dark.

The configurations have changed actually since 117 kicked in.

Miami Air removed the first two rows of economy (1DEF & 2DEF) and installed two "domestic first class type" recliner seats and installed a curtain around the seats. They made the seats recline a bit more than 40 degrees to their definition of "near lie flat" (it's actually like 45 degrees maybe- keep in mind 90 degrees would actual be lie flat) and then had the FAA sign it off as a Class 2 Rest Facility. It's a total joke really.... but it is better then the old 30A and sitting next to two passengers at 30B & 30C. But how they got the FAA to sign off that these seats are "near lie flat" still amazes me. But that's Miami Air for ya... always looking for the gray area or the short cut...

Default How often

Does that multi day park hopper option happen? And also the augmented crew thing? I would just call in sick, and what most should do, if you get a day like that! Or, send a message when you arrive at destination that you are sick. It's the only way things will change. In other words, do something about it instead of complaining about it. I am not pointing fingers but if it were me, no more training contract, then No, I'm not sitting in economy and driving for 19 hours. No meal etc... Get me a direct ticket with food or I'm not going.

Hope things get better with the new contract. It will have to if they want experienced people.

Better yet, those who fell the terms and conditions unacceptable, don't take the job. Those knowingly do take the job with the aforementioned conditions, pitch up, do your job, and keep your bazoos shut.... simple.
