Mountain Aviation

Anybody out there know about Mountain Aviation in Denver? They have a robust web page that discusses who they are and what they do, but of course it doesn't tell a pilot on the job hunt what it's like to work there. Any info would be great and the Chief Pilots name would be a big plus.

Don't know anything about the company but I found the Chief Pilot's, Gary Emmerson, name in the NBAA catalog.

Website says they are looking for two pilots, one in Denver, the other in Eagle. I'd suggest, based on 30 years in biz, to take a resume over to JeffCo and visit them. Be in th ballpark quals-wise, though.

Hey... i used to work for MA 2 years ago. It is a great charter company... i would say the best in Denver. The current CP (last i heard is Ron Cardwell... Emmerson stepped down to G400 line pilot). When I was there, the schedule was 7 ON, 3 OFF, 7 ON, 4 OFF.... salaried position (lower than average, but reasonable)... home most nights (day trips) if you fly one of the turboprops, or light jets (i.e. citation II/V). Great group of guys/gals to work with from top to bottom. Wish I didn't have to relocate to LA (read: local based pilots .... most a/c were based at BJC or APA, with 1 or 2 at FNL and EGE/RIL. Great place to be if you can make the pay and lifestyle work for you! Good luck!

They do state pretty serious quals on the website. If they stick to them, they seem to want to weed out a good number of pilots.

If I had the hours I would apply but I'm not even close to their requirements. I'm interested in a King Air PIC and/or jet SIC position that could open up in the future depending on attrition and growth.

Seems these guys are hiring according to their website. Learjet 31 SIC and PIC (Sun Valley) and Challenger 300 PIC (Broomfield). Anyone with info on pay, schedule, etc?

There is not much information out there, and to make sure pilots know what they are getting into, I have a few facts to share. Yes, this was a great company 2 years ago. Yes, they had some good leadership in the past. Yes, they still have a 7 on 4 off, 7 on 3 off schedule. They have gone through 3 Cheif Pilots in the past year, progressively decreasing in quality. The current Chief Pilot is not trusted by the pilot group. The Director of Operations is more concerned with profit than safety. He has bullied pilots into flying when they shouldn't have. As for the schedules, it was nice to be able to plan months in advance. This is no longer the case. Your schedule can now change for the month with only 5 days notice, and the trend is moving to a "soft" days off schedule. Recently my friend put in his "4 week notice" required by the employee handbook, only to be told he was terminated. Mountain Aviation employees: keep this in mind when you are ready to move on. Be ready to go 4 weeks without pay because you are following their policies. If you are unemployed and waiting for something better to come along, Mountain Aviation will pay the bills. If you are a professional with your career ahead of you, I would stay where you are and look elsewhere.
