What is next?
I've been lurking on APC for a while, finally decided to get a username. From all the reading I've been able to do it seems like Sun Country, while going through interesting times with the management, there is little chatter from the pilot group.
1. Does this mean things are going well overall at Sun Country?
2. Is there a chance there's no real grievances worth posting about and the management is simply working out their own issues?
3. Seems like an interesting business model with some great destinations, please PM if you're at Sun Country and don't want to post here.
Thanks!

Very Helpuful Post - Any updates? Culture?
The below post is still the most helpful I've read so far regarding Sun Country.
Any updates? It's been almost a year. Not looking for rumors, but the practical side of living and working as a Sunny pilot.
Thanks!

Hey 12fly, new to the forums but thought I'd chime in and give you some help with your decision.
The pros:
3 year upgrade
Growing airline
A chance to get out of the fee for departure model and work for your own airline.
B737NG
A livable wage (Its not United, and still low, but after 2 years most FOs are in the $85-$100k range. Captains are in the $100-$200k + depending on seniority.
Hometown airline culture
Ability to credit 100-120+ hrs as an FO in most months
INTL and ETOPS charters
Caribbean and Mexico layovers
Good Per Diem ($500-$800 a month for layover lines)
150% for open time pickup above 75hrs.
Turn Lines are 17-21 days off. Layover lines are around 14-16 days off
Cons:
11/12 min days off
No min day pay
Scheduling flexibility is poor
401k is 6%, goes to 8%
$20,000 training contract
Not entirely commuter friendly
Lines fluctuate based on the season. A high number of "turns" in the fall and winter and lots of 4-5 days in the spring and summer.
Most people like it, even those that leave enjoyed their time for the most part. It was just time for them to move on to greener pastures.
Most people know nothing about us, but it is a really good place to work and one of the better kept secrets in the industry.
If you don't have an offer anywhere else, you should seriously think about flying here. I think you'll like it, good luck.

10 "hometown" pilots per month leaving per month. Sounds great!

There's truth here but the real story is that there are much better options these days.
I'm glad I spent a year at Sunny and it was a good experience for the most part. I have good memories and I'm a Twin Cities 'semi-local' though not a true Twin Cities native. I would have been happy to spend the rest of my career there, not commuting. But the economics don't work in a field of LCCs with better networks and probably a stronger future and all the majors are hiring like crazy and it's only going to get more crazy.
The fact is that in 2017 there are many better options, especially if you're not a true local committed to living in the Twin Cities area.

That's exactly it. Once you are on second year FO pay at any legacy you earn comparably to what a 6 year Captain earns at Sun Country (majority of Captains are 15+ years at SCA), and have many more days off per month. That's not to say Sun Country doesn't have its QOL perks if you're local.
