This is going to be waaay worse than commuting for Sun Country. This TDY plan is going to mean stagnation, and possibly reduction, for the MSP base. If all the growth is going into the TDY bases it could mean years before one could expect to hold a line in MSP. There isn't exactly any movement on the CA side of the list, so the advertised quick upgrade could turn into perpetual out of base reserve assignment. Not so great when the only logical reason to be at Sunny is the base.

There is no "plan". Nobody knows what is going to happen. Company wants to meet with the union to discuss changes in the current CBA. That meeting has not even happened yet so we don't have any specifics on what the company is actually going to ask for. Speculation is some sort of TDY language, but nothing specific has been proposed from either side as of yet. The sky has yet to fall.

No plan. The logical places might be current focus cities like Portland, Nashville, or Madison. However, that is a guess at best. Maybe more likely that TDYs are just that, temporary duty assignments constantly roaming to fulfill unmet lift. Three months here, three months there... It might well be a successful way to run an airline. Pretty sure it isn't a successful way to have personal relationships, a dog, meet people, have kids, etc.

Obviously the language in our CBA is not conducive to the company doing anything regarding TDY or new bases. They will be coming to us for relief of some sort in their desire to amend the CBA. We have leverage in this deal and the company can't unilaterally do anything without us agreeing to the terms. It's my hope that something will be negotiated that will be workable. Unless the union caves on this issue and sells out the Jr. guys in exchange for a guarantee of 30 turn lines in MSP every month, hopefully we will be able to benefit. So, before retaining a divorce lawyer, dropping your dog at the pound or putting a Glock in your mouth, maybe wait and see how this turns out.

I certainly don't consider myself in a position to be picky, but I had to respectfully decline an interview offer. Training contract, out-of-pocket training hotel, and $48/hr. I could maybe swing 2 of those but not all 3 man...not all 3.

They have no idea what they are doing. With the way the schedules are trending it’s getting worse. Lots more 5 and 6 day trips that pay trip rig... 23-24 hours for a 5 day. Lots of flying over the weekend. Flying on the back side of the clock on charters. It sounds like they can’t grow the way they want with the current contract and it’s restrictions. The contract is not amendable until November 2020.
Remember this when they sell you on a fast upgrade... It may be 2 years but QOL and pay is not even close to reasonable. 70 credit hours a month with no room to gain more credit unless junior assigned on your off days. (It’s happening now) 10 days off a month which means bad QOL and nearly impossible to commute. You could be on reserve for 3+ years. Flying trips that no one else wants in opentime or they Get dropped with vacation. Weekend and holiday flying for years.
You may have buyers remorse. Buyer beware. Do your research. Talk to current Sun Country pilots if you know one.
