The next couple of days may provide that answer....

Rumor is AAWW holdings bought NAA with the agreement that WOA would be reduced to 2 MD11s. The MD11s will be used to finish the AMC allotment. Once that is finished. The MD11s will be reduced to 0.

How would that benefit Atlas?

Seperate certificate for passenger ops. It would give AAWW the ability to have the cargo carve out for 117. As of Jan 3rd (I think) if any passanger ops are operated on the same certificate as cargo, you have to use the most restrictive rest rules.

NAA has some very nice Govt contracts (afghan airbridge). That would benefit anyone.

You do not have to use the most restrictive rest rules. Atlas is already planning on flying with both sets of rules. If you are doing pax flying you are under 117, if cargo then 121. Company has said it will probably end up with whatever your first flight of a trip is, is what you will fly for the whole pattern.

We'll see how it works.

Maybe they plan on doing it with two certificates. You do have the most restrictive rules you said it " Company has said it will probably end up with whatever your first flight of a trip is, is what you will fly for the whole pattern." That might work if the pattern started out under 117.

Can you explain how you think it would work if the pattern started as cargo, then ended up as passenger?

Quotes from understanding 117 web page that was set up :

"This rule allows all-cargo operations to voluntarily determine, as part of their collective bargaining and business decisions, whether they wish to operate under part 117.

In order to prevent manipulation of this voluntary provision, certificate holders who wish to operate their all cargo operations under part 117 cannot pick and choose specific flights to operate under this rule."

Seems like Atlas has been talking to Global for at least a couple of years. And I'm pretty sure World is already down to 2 MD11 pax birds. Maybe NAA will get DOH!

Read those quotes you posted carefully. "...all-cargo operations to voluntarily determine...whether they wish to operate under part 117. ...certificate holders who wish to operate their all cargo operations under part 117 cannot pick and choose..." We are NOT talking about an ALL CARGO operation that is voluntarily using 117 rules--we ARE talking about a CARGO/PAX operation that is NOT volunteering to do anything more than it is required to do. A single pilot group operating under more than one certificate does not help the scheduling puzzle. In fact, your crystal ball vision would be a 3rd certificate for AAWW. If AAWW buys NAA, I'd be shocked if the motive was 117 rules.
