Cliff, checkout your CBA and read the section that states, that the company is responsible to bring you back to base, no need to js from all sorts of international destinations.
Although legacy carriers have set schedules they are faced with commuting challenges.

Omni actually has home basing combined with gateway. It's a really bad idea, as well. Even though you'd go to work on Day 1 (rather than a day early), any sort of domestic commercialing to get you into position didn't count toward duty time, pay credit, or per diem. Only international segments counted as deadhead for purposes of the contractual duty time limit. What happened out of that was if you had to commercial from your home (say, in LAX) to Kuwait, they could send you LAX-DFW-ORD-JFK for 16 hours, then start the 20 hour deadhead clock in JFK as you board your flight to KWI in coach. Boom, 36 hour day caused by taking advantage of weak contractual language.
I bring that up because I strongly believe we need a professional team of negotiators for our Atlas CBA in 2016. I've seen how the Teamsters do it, and we need better than a negotiating committee comprised of a couple line pilots and an attorney. We'll get eaten alive if we don't.

What is a 'professional negotiator ' better yet where do we pick one of those up and how much do they cost?

I have seen how the IBT negotiates contracts up close, and in person. I also know the general counsel for 1224, he is pretty damn sharp. Yes, I have faith in their abilities, and in the support from the Beltway guys. You would be surprised at their effectiveness. The lack of a iron-clad contract at any airline is the fault of the pilot group, and 5Y is no exception.

I don't want to JS anywhere, unless it is for my own purposes...not work related.
The guys that live overseas often have to JS, or buy tickets. To get Gateway Basing, it will cost the company less money if we get International Gateway...and then no one has to JS or buy tickets, unless on holiday...

Having them and the support team from the AD outside consultants; including the one who worked with the Atlas Merger Committee who does outstanding economic analysis...very solid team.
All that said, unless the pilot group is willing to uphold the CBA right now, up to the opener and during the negotiations...they will have a heck of a hard time when the company pulls out reams of documents and says, "yes, you say the pilots want X...but here's the proof that they will do it for Y."

Pay should be calculated based on what one did for the day vs taking the higher category (CRT, ect.) averaged over the month. If you block 10 hrs you get paid 10 for that day. If you sit you get CRT, but if you block 2 hrs you still get CRT.
Also make it a straight 13 Day Month, and if they need you they pay the current VX pay.
Why haven't we seen a proposed contract from the union. I'm fairly new but most of you have been wanting a new contract for years. Times a ticking and some are leaving because they don't know what the future brings. If folks know what we are fighting for they may stick it out, but just saying industry leading is not cutting it. We need facts!
