I think when you are on the World Stage, you try to get everything right. Or not. Why it took five hours to get a replacement 90 miles is astounding. Something that important to your business plan and have no backup.....Well........

Last time I flew charters to Havana some 12 years ago... Permits did not come so quickly. Not like arranging a flight from KMIA to KLAX with terminal operations arranged at the last moment. Perhaps someone can chime in as to the time it takes to get immigration, customs, flight and landing, parking, and handling rights into Havana..

Spoken like a true domestic line pilot. The only reason that the replacement airplane arrived 5 hours later was because it was the Rolling Stones, otherwise it would have probably been 5 days. Overflight permits for Cuba are easier to get than Landing Permits, not to mention US Custom requirements for the return.

Aside from the semi-retired assassin/president and 11 million or so wet-foot/dry-foot wannabes, it's just as you say.

All i know is that EAL has done so much in 10 months , that it is incredible.
In 10 months:

2: 6 airplanes with Wifi.
3: EFB Approved and certified.
4: OPT Approved and certified.
5: paperless cockpit. No paper flight plan.
6: one B737 simulator on property (1 out of 4)
7: one FTD on property. (1 out of 4)
8: confirmed order of 20 B737 max.
9: confirmed order of 20 MRJ.
10: employing more than 200 people.
11:long range navigation approved.
And many more.
I will say thank you E.W for the job well done.
And only time will tell.

They've come a long way, indeed.
In its last days (I'm reliably told), old Eastern would re-paint the left side of the aircraft, since that was the side facing the terminal in pre-Jetway days, and get around to the right side later on.
