Atlas gateway cities/bases
i saw something referenced on the gateway cities vs bases at Atlas in the "what you'd like in the TA" thread and i'm confused.
I thought the only gateway cities are the ones mentioned on airlinepilotcentral.com Are there currently gateway cities offered in Europe? What is an up to date list of Atlas' gateway cities? I apologize I do not have a copy of the contract nor have browsed the one thousand pages of that 'Atlas Hiring' thread to dig for this 2015 info. Thanks! |
Some pilots want gateway/home basing, and/or international gateway.

We currently have bases with gateway travel cities.
Your base is where you are based and where your published schedule must show you starting and ending your pattern. The cities listed on the APC profile page are bases. ORD will become a base in January. A gateway airports is the closest commercial airport to where you actually live. Most major US airports are considered gateway travel airports, but not all of them. A gateway airport is the airport from which the company will travel you to / from your base at the start or end of a pattern. You do not have to accept gateway travel. You are more than welcome to jumpseat to / from work. If you do use gateway travel, it is usually on your day off as the company wants you to get to base 8-10 hours before report time. No foreign gateway cities. A lot of people want home basing with the next CBA, meaning your schedule starts on day 1 from the airport closest to where you live. |
I know some people want home basing for those reasons but I'm wondering how it could actually work that way(not travel on off days). I think factoring in everyone's different travel times from home would be difficult. Some of the ACMI carriers that do have home basing still travel on off days. The only way I could see it work is if the schedules were built with some generic travel time period added to the front and back where it would be enough to account for the majority of the commuters travel times and pre-duty rest.

No first hand experience but from what I've read on here Kalitta is home based and travels on off days.

as for K4 aka Kalitta Air.... you will travel on Day 0 about 98% of the time... ymmv as to the time you will travel... I typically have a flight between 3-5pm. West Coasters have it a bit worse ... . Our contract says you must be in position by 5z on day 1. so do the calculations. As for travel on the back end.... i have only traveled on my first off day ONCE... and that was my choice after a long flight into the lower 48.. and I was just too tired to commercial home without a break. Company did provide hotel for the night. Typically... for me.. anyways... I have probably been home by noon local time... 17 of the last 18 months.... on my last day of the pattern. Its not unusual for me to be home by 10am. There is NO provision in our current contract (as bad as it is written) to extend you beyond day 17.... contract states you must be released stateside by 19z on your last day....... I know guys who have had issues with that.. can't say that I have.

How do the schedules account for travel time at places like Omni? If you are patterned 18 days some portion of day 1 and 18 must be set aside for travel. Do you bid for specific trips or just days? Thanks.
