Atlas Interview Dec 1,2 and forward
#211
Hello, I received an email stating that I'd been placed on the preferential hiring list. Is anyone able to explain what exactly that means? I have availability in one month and haven't really heard anything since.
Is there an average time from the preferential email to notification of a class date?

That’s the “you’re hired” letter, congratulations! They word it really weird where you’re not sure if you got the job or not. I’d say you’ll get a call for the first available class after your stated availability. They’re having trouble filling classes.

Has anyone had a similar experience?
I applied and was offered an interview in NYC early last year. I came down with the flu and had to reschedule it. During that time, I began digging into my training contract with my current employer. Long story short, I decided to complete my training contract as I originally agreed.
Since that time, I have kept my application updated and I'm nearing the end of my training contract. I've sent several emails to the HR rep's who contacted me about the initial interview. So far, I have received no response from them over the past 7 months. I explained my situation in each of the 4-5 emails that I sent to HR. Additionally, I've had one internal LOR sent. Still nothing.
From a couple of friends at Atlas (and from this forum), they can't fill classes, yet I can't get a call.
Any advice? (Other than applying elsewhere comments)

I would be concerned that, as you have noted, Atlas is short of pilots yet they can't seem to contact those who are available. What you may not know is that this disfunction is not confined to the hiring department ...

Just curious ... Why Atlas? I assume you know the current labor contract situation at the other ACMI carriers is far more favorable in a number of ways.

Reason:
-Omni, while they do pay higher, isn't crediting as much time which equals to less compensation and more nights in a hotel.
-Kalitta, crickets.
-JetBlue & Spirit interview coming up, but those do not necessarily fulfill what I need.
Atlas certainly has issues and I am indeed perplexed by their model in hiring pilots. However, I have worked for a regional (twice after being furloughed) so I have no Disney Land illusions.
It is what it is and I'm prepared to deal with it.

might want to review several posts on this one...this, might....., only apply if you would happen to get the 747.

Valid point. I would certainly need the 747, which I understand depends on what the need is at the time. In previous months, lots of 747 hires....rather “offers” unless my info is wrong.

Also, most of the 767 time is going to be domestic at Atlas and whatever international flying there is will go relatively senior.
At least at Omni the pay is much , much higher for F.O.'s and you will get mostly international experience.
