Extensions are rare this quarter.
How quickly some forget. There was a time not too long ago when we were extending everyone every month. Reserve CAs were out on the road for 15 days in a row with 30 hours off given to them in hotels. This was within the last two years.
Reserve? Pilots extended every single sequence.
Don't think this can't happen again very quickly. My point is we have horrible contract language (see bottom of the industry) to protect us from any of this happening. "Overstaffed" has a way of becoming "understaffed" very quickly at CommutAir, or have many of you already forgotten that? After almost four years here, I have seen the pendulum swing back and forth and back forth.

So how many times has IAD/EWR melted down this winter due to weather. If your trip ends that day, you're not getting home and it's an extension into a day off. Our contract doesn't differentiate them.
Operational extensions have been rare. Extensions are still somewhat common.
PS: the conspiracy theorist in me doesn't like how they've removed the stats from the website. When it got really bad, they put up a stats page but since it's gotten better it's gone away.

I'm a total noob here and just wrapping up IOE. One of the things I learned that I did not like was the fact that the FOs I bumped to do IOE were put on reserve, rather than pay protected and released.
I'm sorry, but that's horse****. Once you get a line, you fly a line or get pay protected and released. You don't get put back on reserve. Period. Needless to say, I made a recommendation to change the current policy directly to the union via the negotiations email address and just put it on the survey as well.

I agree.

Yeah, its a crappy policy, but unfortunately one that most all regionals have (save a few).

Top of my head: Envoy, Air Wisconsin, Endeavor, Republic (90% sure), ExpressJet all have the policy of releasing you.
Now, if you mean bottom of the barrel horrible contract regionals, then yes. CommutAir puts more people on rsv for more things than any other regional from what I've seen. Turn cancelled on last day due to weather? 7 hours of airport reserve for you. Not even "available reserve", airport.
It's awful, and it's NOT "most regionals". I'm getting tired of people thinking we are just as bad as everywhere else, so just deal. We are by far worse in most cases.
Fill out your surveys.

This would be wrong.

It's time to push back on this practice. To be honest I wasn't planning on staying at C5 forever, but if anything causes me to push out apps earlier and not bother to upgrade this will be it. Once I've done my time on reserve I never want to see it again until I bail to my next company.
Oh, and the whole CQF thing needs to die in a fire.
