Allentown area is great in terms of work. It would extremely iffy to make it within the 2 hour short call window (1:20 to the airport and 30 min to gate, gives you 10 minutes of play time for putting on uniform, dragging bags to car, and traffic).

There's three busses daily on 'United' with a flight number that could be argued to use your commuter clause if the weather is absolutely ****. Not that anything would be flying out of EWR and the company would rather have you sit at home, but it's a backup option for worst case scenarios.

Well this is ironic, I know as of yesterday a 11/17/17 hire received word that they are going to IAD in August.

Actually it fell yesterday to a 10/18/18 hire. They will be on reserve for awhile.

Keep in mind that eastern PA can be 1.5+ hour drive to EWR. It sometimes takes me up to 30 minutes to get from the employee lot to the gates, depending mostly on the bus schedule. You may not be able to reliably drive to EWR in 2 hours to meet the reserve call out window. Therefore, at least while on reserve, you may need the occasional hotel or crash pad. That said, C5 loves its airport reserves, so if you need a semi-fixed / predictable schedule, you can request airport reserve and leave sufficiently early to show up at the airport as you would for a 9-5 desk job.
I moved NJ to CA, and CA is much more expensive. It’s not on par and CA is much worse.

Lehigh Valley is good. Stay east of the river in forks township or Palmer township. Avoid Rt. 22. Anywhere close to Rt. 33 to I-78 is your best bet.
