Overnights

Do you guys who are based at EWR get lines with IAD overnights, or are all overnights at out stations? Just curious since I live by IAD so that would be a nice plus.

I would not count on being in either base on an overnight. We mostly overnight in outstations for a variety of reasons.

I'm EWR based and in the last six months I have overnighted in IAD maybe three times.

If you live close to IAD, bid IAD.

Thanks, it was more to see if there was a way to break up being fully gone from the family for an entire trip.

I've been at C5 a long time. I think EWR has a better chance of being home because C5 has more flying in EWR than IAD. But generally, being IAD based, I see Dulles when I commute in on Day 1 and don't see it again until the trip ends. It's not that much different for EWR folks.

There’s something like only 25 flights a day out of IAD. I see more Air Wisconsin metal there then C5

You overnight in EWR because you time out. You don't overnight in IAD because we need those flights to get crews in/out of IAD.

Just out of curiosity, what are the BEST overnights with Commutair?

Depends on what you want to do. We don't typically have downtown overnights so you'll need to get a Uber to go downtown or where ever the action is at.

While true, there is something to be said for staying at a hotel outside of earshot of either the airport or a city center. Noise is the enemy of good sleep, and one thing you learn pretty quickly in this business is good sleep is absolutely required to function well in the job, particularly on a 4 or 5 day trip. Get crappy sleep and by day 3 you'll be a zombie.

Case in point: Ithaca NY: The Hotel Ithaca is a very nice place to stay but it's in downtown and if you're not on the top floor the noise associated with the city street below is loud enough to wake me from a sound sleep.

Burlington, VT is my favorite overnight. It's beautiful, quiet, and the hotel we stay at has some of the most comfortable beds I've ever slept in. It's the one hotel at which I get a quality of sleep comparable to being at home.
