C5 Pay and Contract
Now that CommutAir isn't the only regional hiring, is management doing anything to keep the pilots they have?
From the outside looking in, C5 seems to have some of the worst pay in the industry, and unless they have stopped guarding the airport, one of the worst contracts.

Yes, pay is below standard and very near the bottom end of the industry range. If the comment about guarding the airport is in reference to the ridiculous amount of airport reserve, that’s spot on too. To make that part worse, it’s an 8 hour sit for 4 hours of pay! Oh, and there is no limit on how much airport reserve a pilot can be assigned in a bid period. Overall, the contract is a poorly written joke that the company ignores whenever it suits them. If major changes aren’t addressed in the next contract, C5 will be right back to where they were just a little over a year ago where hiring is concerned!

The pay may have been OK for FOs when the LOA was in place, but it’s horrible for CAs and has been for quite some time. The only way C5 survives is if they can recruit and retain pilots for the planned growth. With the industry rebounding, they aren’t the only ones hiring right now. Some of the other places are even offering bonuses! Sure, recruiting was easy before the recovery started, but anyone doing even minimal research will discover the pay/contract/work rule and training deficiencies. It will be right back to hiring the 100 hour IOE window lickers, just like the not so distant future!

Other regionals may be hiring but how long to actually get in a class? Skywest have approximately 600 CJOs from pre covid to get through. PSA and others are mainly only taking from their cadet pool. Others like AW and Goget are taking only a few per class.
Take the first offer you get. If it doesn't work out then at least your building 121 time until you get the chance to go somewhere better. We aren't outa the woods yet with regards to CoVID so "holding out for better" may not be a good strategy.

This argument is a little pointless unless you have actual class dates from multiple airlines.

When does the CARES act money run out? I’m optimistic about all of this hiring but curious to see how things are if the government decides not to find any more bailouts after this last round. Also curious to see the new strategies airlines develop if business travel does not come back in mass.
