You were right. I am in shock. I was told during my interview it took over a year to get IAD. That was a relief to me because I have absolutely no desire for IAD nor would it be commutable for me.
She confirmed and my friend currently in sims text me tonight. The entire class that just started all got IAD. She said they had retirements and upgrades and they needed help there. She did say IAH remains to be the junior base and the largest base but there is no way of knowing where you would be assigned. I read here and heard there is not much flying out of IAD. I know I looked at crashpads online. They are much more expensive.
Thanks for sharing what you heard. I am trying to decide what direction I am going. My buddy did say the training department is pretty organized and he is enjoying it.

No problem! Just seeing this. If you want to PM me we can discuss things more. I know the head of training. He seems like he’s a good guy.

I have a class date with C5 that I'm pretty excited about, but also have offers elsewhere. A few questions I have if anyone would mind providing some insight...
-- Are most trips currently 4-day? And are most overnights in the small "non-premium" cities?
-- Do C5 pilots have the same exact benefits as United mainline?
-- How likely do you reckon a less than 5 years flow could be?
-- How sustainable do you think C5 is within the next 5 years?
Thank you for any insight!

-Yes, most of the trips are 4d. Yes almost all overnights at outstations.
-No we don’t have same benefits, not even close. If you meant travel benefits yes we have them but you will be always last one on the list.
-Flow is a gamble. My personal opinion if you want UA badly you better go non UAX regional with no delay in training build about 200-300h and apply for LCC or upgrade and you will get a call from UA way faster.
-Again my personal opinion. If C5 will be able to ramp up 175 program and UA will transfer 175 from other regionals chances to survive a bit better.

Questions
Just wanted to get some feedback. Is commutair a good ‘destination’ airline? Like for example… can you go there and then stay for a career or maybe 10-15 years? Do you have folks who elect to stay in the right seat for their entire time at C5? Are they allowed/encouraged in some cases to do this?
Also, is IAH available as a base right out of training?
Also, do you guys do any overseas type flying or is only us domestic?
Thanks in advance

I would not consider any regional to be a "safe" career destination for the next decade. Maybe things will settle down after the retirements wind down and the industry will return to some sort of equilibrium with the regional model.
Skywest is about as safe it gets, they're big enough that if they're going to fail you'll probably see it far enough out to react.
LCC's will pretty desperate soon enough, I'd shoot for that.

The last two classes both got IAD, but there is enough mobility/growth/expansion that you wouldn't necessarily be stuck with it very long. Base swaps are also possible.
Canada flying is coming back. No word on Mexico yet, but it was a thing at one time. The airplanes are EMB145s so not exactly an ocean-crosser. The 175 is coming online - training has started to go to proving runs. No hard dates on when it hits the line but it's definitely happening.

Yes I looked on the manufacturer's website and the Embraer regional jets aren't etops certified, and the available range appears to be insufficient (per the manufacturer) for North Atlantic or pacific crossings or like oceanic usage. Maybe as a private airplane or something with heavy modification, but not really for commercial use... would be cool to see though.

Dont get caught up in the jet. I was at C5 for two years, now on the 737 at Delta. We go to *some* of the same destinations I went to at C5. Get your time, blast out those apps, and move on at the first chance. I took a brief stop at F9 before DAL. Do what you have to do. The EJet doesn’t make regional life great, maybe just a little more bearable.
