Association Related Issues *Union*

Someone recently posted a suggestion on the Saga Continues thread about union related issues in a separate sub thread on here. I wanted to run with that, and also wanted to point out that the Association has a dedicated forum specifically related to assisting with those issues.

When you log into the Cpz.alpa.org website, there is a specific section in there labelled Forum, and it is viewed by Association members only. I'd highly encourage you utilize this to voice your comments, questions, and concerns directly with the MEC and Volunteers, and I am hoping that it will spring new life and we can get some forward progress in that aspect.

I'm on mobile right now and it doesn't show post count, but I had your post is getting views.

We have a perfectly fine message board on the ALPA sight that, honestly, would be a much better place to discuss certain things. It's sad how little traffic it gets.

It’s gotten over 90. Usual banter and stuff is fine, especially for new hire traffic etc, but when it comes to ALPA related posts, it would be efficient to use that forum there.

Agreed, the IBT boards at Republic were extremely active. Kinda disappointing here to say the least and I think a reflection of the apathy towards unions and the "stepping stone" mentality of the somewhat younger pilot group here at Compass.

that board was exactly the forum I was thinking of when I made my post.

Couldn't agree more with the rest of your post. Even if you have apathy towards union stuff it's still a good not a good idea to keep all of our whining about trivial stuff in our house. No need to wave our dirty laundry around the front yard.

That’s because our so called union does nothing to encourage the pilots using it, nor do they lead by example. The majority of the pilot group has the mentality they do because that’s the mentality the union has. I’ve heard from friends at Endeavor that their Chairman, along with Sun Country, are all in the office M-F 8-5. They said our office is rarely occupied for any amount of time. Our union has to be getting enough money in dues to buy the Chairman off for one week a mo and they all meet at the office and discuss issues along with working to resolve the issues, like real airlines do. The union is largely staffed with popularity contestants that are “box checkers” wanting to look good for Daddy D. Not because they truely care. Not saying that’s every person, just a good number. If they really cared about being volunteer or Chairman, it wouldn’t be so difficult getting a response from them regarding questions, etc that people have from that committee. I think it would be easier to get a world leader on the phone.

Then go into that forum and start making your voices heard. Regardless of opinion, it is a good space to make it heard and known. Here everyone in the world can see what's going on. My personal thoughts aside, the ALPA board is a good place to voice your thoughts and concerns.

If you feel that our MEC is a bunch of box checkers, then go and voice your concerns on that specific areas. If you have ideas for contract language changes, get in there and get to be a part of it. Griping there they see it. Griping here they see it. Difference is, on their forum it's going to get addressed.

There are other forms of recourse available to you as well if you feel that your reps aren't doing a good job.

The only way evil will triumph is the indifference of good people.
Don't be indifferent and take a stand.

The problem with our current union forum is that nobody wants to post using their real name.

There could be a few ways to address this issue. RAH forums were accessed using the union web site, so it was still limited to pilots on property, but it allowed people to use any ID name.

XJT pilot forums allowed anyone to register, but verified pilots had a special icon next to their avatar.

While we are few and far between, I have not gone to great lengths to make my ID a secret here.

I won't tell anyone who I am on here... But in the crew room/flight deck I'll freely admit my screen name.
